GGG never fought a puncher like Mugabi either. Especially that version who was undefeated, teeming with confidence and willing to give all of himself.
The OP said in his first post "Hagler vs GGG prime for prime" and I said that Hagler has a greater stamina than GGG then you responded to my post by saying that Hagler got tired vs Leonard. Let me ask you a question "Did Hagler fight Leonard at his prime?
Hagler was just a sharper, more fluid puncher from distance, and he'd utilize his movement and jab-oriented distance control to turn Golovkin. I actually think Hagler was more willing to inflict damage in-close, too, without minding the take one to give one against heavy hitters than Golovkin. I envision him approaching the fight like the Sibson one, and even though Golovkin was quite a bit better than Sibson (although maybe not as physically strong), class would tell as the rounds go by. Golovkin was an absolutely fantastic fighter; Hagler was an all-time legend.
You do realise that the Hagler of the Mugabi fight was not prime so I'm not sure why you keep bringing it up. He had a very tough fight with Hearns in 85, despite it only going 3 rounds, and was clearly on the slide. Why do you think SRL decided to challenge him in 87? Try the Minter, Scypion or Sibson fights to gauge prime Marvin.
Hagler displayed more skill v Mugabi than he did in his brawl v Minter and his hand speed was great v Mugabi too, Mugabi would have beaten Minter based on each fighters respective performance v Hagler, Minter had 9 losses on his record and only 23 KO`s.
Just watched a few Hagler fights including the Mugabe fight, as a reminder of how great he was. He was so insanely tough and determined it’s amazing to watch. I haven’t gone back as much as I used to, at least not with Hagler. The amount of leather he ate and dished out against Mugabe was staggering. Mugabe hit him with an assortment of punches that would have stopped most fighters and Hagler hardly blinked. Mugabe was a monster who just gassed in the last round after expending a tremendous amount of energy. That guy was tough as nails. Both he and Hagler put on a display of brutal toughness for the fans. Both guys deserve a lot of credit. GGG was a great puncher in his prime and I think he may have hit harder than Mugabe but I’m not sure. Mugabe threw bombs with every punch. He wasn’t super skilled but he was fast and tough. Probably better than anyone GGG or Canelo has faced. Seeing the old fight reminded me of how great boxing once was. Those two guys were true warriors. This kind of fight takes something out of both fighters and it’s disrespectful to compare either to modern fighters. No modern MW should be compared to Hagler. He had a granite chin and never stopped punching. Never knocked down in his career. I’m reminded of why he was my favorite fighter for so many years. ATG.
Jacobs has fast hands and quick combinations and could move back and manuever in ways GGG would not. That ability would make it harder for Marvin in the long run. GGG would be right in front of him and Marvin liked that. He liked guys who were in front of him who walked into his punches. He was deceptive in that way.
That might be true. My point is that he would be a tougher fight for Marvin because he can back up and move forward and uses the ring more in both directions. I didn't say he would beat Marvin. If I did, I mistyped.
Jacobs is longer and much bigger but Hagler was quicker, had way more stamina and was infinitely tougher. Not sure if GGG gets KOd by Hagler because he has a great chin. I could see Hagler roughing him up and winning unanimously. Jacobs chin would not hold up to the Hagler pressure. Not for 12 rounds and he lacks Hagler’s heart (you could say that about any fighter). Hagler brutally KOs Jacobs.
