Probably Charles, but I don’t see ward getting outclassed (I am guessing most will) and think he is a live dog. I would pick Charles but I think it’s close

Charles outclasses Ward. On their best nights, it wouldn't be particularly close.

I don't know! Very hard to pick - both were great fighters.

Charles of course had an amazing resume, but Ward was very intelligent (ring IQ), and had a way of knowing just what to do. Also he had a fine run as an amateur - which I know some will say counts for nothing, when we're talking about pro boxing (I disagree).

But in the end, with a resume like his, it's hard not to go for Charles... so I will take him on points, in a close fight.

I'd be the one you guys could bet with. I'd take Ward and from what I've seen of Charles on video, I'd feel good about it. Maybe there is more video out there of Charles I haven't seen that would make me change my mind. But Ward to me is fundamentally excellent, mentally strong, and physically talented. In addition, I'll take his amateur and pro career, he accomplished a lot and was smart about getting to the top without fighting a lot of fights or taking unnecessary damage.
Charles does have some impressive names on his resume, particularly Bivins and Marshall but with Ward's experience at the top of international amateur boxing and in the pro game, it's doubtful that there was anything in boxing that he hasn't seen or experienced. A vote for Ward.

Here we go with that narrative again. I remember people saying he wouldn't fight Kovy. Then after the admittedly close/controversial 1st fight said he woudn't fight him a 2nd time. But he did, so i don't know where that sentiment even comes from.

Look what happened with Kov. he was robbed in fight 1 against Ward then in fight 2 I think if Ward took a baseball bat with him & hit Kov over the head with it Weekes would have counted him out. The calle Golota the foul Pole for his blatant low blows but Ward got away with murder even the 3 punch supposed KO flurry were all FOULS!! Ward & Weekes actions were attrocious

not sure I or everyone agree that Kov was robbed....I scored for ward. 114-113 the cards are pretty diversified for each guy. I can say close, I can say controversial...but robbery? Nah not even close

At 175 give me Charles, but at 168 I fancy Ward.

In either case it’s a competitive decision.

While I’ve always liked Andre Ward as a great athlete and boxer, Ezzard Charles was far more battle tested against the elite and in the higher weight classes. Have to give Ezzard the edge
