It is very unfair to say the Ward gets outclassed, all these on this post seem to forget what an undefeated record means, an undefeated record combined with being a 2 weight world champion deserves more respect than it gets, people don't seem to give people with undefeated records any respect, what more can one do? And people still says he gets outclassed, it's a joke
Also, in the modern era, Charles would be able to make 168lbs comfortably and at that weight I would definitely pick Ward
Ezzard Charles who figured out how to beat Archie Moore multiple times, Lloyd Marshal, Jimmy Bivens, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Joey Maxim to name a few is going to be able to figure out how to beat Andre Ward. Id comfortably take Charles, especially if he gets the advantages Ward gets for being from a later era (nutrition, training, PED access, etc)
A well prepared Ward got out boxed by Kovalev. Charles could take this fight on a months notice and win a very clear decision.
Charles actually beat Charley Burley on a few days notice, twelve days after a loss coming from being out of shape. He was an absolute phenom. Charles at his best routinely dominated fighters levels higher than Ward. Picking Ward here is laughable.
I match people in these hypothetical match ups exactly as they are/were. If you have to give Charles all of the advantages that Ward had, you're admitting that Charles as he was couldn't compete with Ward. If you give him training, PEDs, nutrition info., fewer fights, access to video, etc. he isn't Ezzard Charles. I'm no expert on Charles, haven't seen him fight a lot, but I remember from watching him that he would feint a jab by sliding his left foot forward which is good, but he wouldn't bring the foot back and he wouldn't move the right foot, leaving him in a split, which is bad. I think Hunter and Ward would see video and use that to their advantage. I'm sure there is much more, I haven't studied Charles a lot. I have watched quite a bit of Ward and IMO he is fundamentally sound, Ward as he was when he fought looks much better to me than the Charles that I have seen on video.

this is classic, people for some reason don’t like to give modern fighters much credit. I picked Charles and still think he would edge this...but, yeah I am with you on this one. If you watched Ward it should be obvious that he is not going to just go out there and be dominated and confused. He will have a plan and the skill to execute it. He would be competitive with just about anyone
I don't have a horse in this race. My "lol" was towards him being a biased as **** poster, particularly against Charles, and towards Fury.
