Fury by easy points or late KO. The size difference is much too vast, even enough to make any great LHW/HW have to go on the back-foot. Let's face it, if you are picking Charles, it seems there maybe extreme historical bias. The current era of heavyweight is just too big nowadays and even so, the "big men" of old weren't really as giants as they are now. Ezzard Charles is a legend, and I am not ignoring that, but looking at the key points, I am unsure how he can dictate the pace against someone with the size, reach, and footwork as Fury. Steve Cunningham was small yes, but he was still bigger that Ezzard Charles when he faced Fury, dropped him even, but Fury now is not the Fury of back then. I think there is an old saying in boxing or something, "a great small man will often lose against a very good big man." or something like that. idk.
Fury wins, based on nothing but size. Charles is insurmountably better pound for pound, but he's outsized here. If they were the same weight, size etc, then Charles would outclass Fury like he did so many other (greater) fighters.
I pick Fury based on size but it would be competitive, if the Bronze Bum and Otto Wallin can nail Fury then so can an ATG like Charles.
I might pick Charles, not sure, it is a lot of weight. I think Fury post comeback has lost a lot of speed, and stamina. Those could be serious issues. He's not fought a real good technician since his comeback, and speedier fighters always gave him issues. I have a hard time rating post-comeback Fury when it's entirely off the basis of beating the zero dimensional Wilder, and lackluster performances against second raters.
Ezzard isnt the only lightheavy that loses to Tyson. No 175 pounder beats him. The size difference is simply too much.
Yes!! This is very true. I never let go of the past. If you were there, you would realize how sucky boxing is now. Sad sad.
I really like Tyson Fury. I enjoy watching his fights! I can't pick him over Charles, though. IMHO, the Ezzard Charles I remember wins this match up, and most times wins it rather comfortably, actually.
That’s ridiculous, we literally watch the same exact fighters on YouTube. Boxing was better back then since the best were fighting the best, but that doesn’t mean a light heavyweight can take on the super heavyweights of today.
I agree wholeheratedly, well written. Except that in these respective bouts the weight differential is 88 & a 1/2 lbs. 184.5 vs. 273.
Dear god this would be so incredibly one sided. The size difference is too much. Fury is to Charles as Charles is to a middle weight. what did he weigh ? 185 at best ? Lets make a more fair matchup Tyson Fury vs Corrie Sanders
