I agree. Twice he has stepped up twice he has came up short. Unfortunately I dont think he has the durability or fitness to get to the top. With his lack of power he will nearly always have to go deep rounds v anyone above British level.

As much as I respect Booth, I'm not sure if he's right for Kelly. Booth's style works if his fighters have knockout power. I think if Josh is going to have any success going forward, he needs to go with a more defensively minded coach and someone who will improve his engine.

I agree. Khan never had the best punch resistance for the big single shots but he has always had a big heart. I think Kelly is British level, maybe just above but not good enough v world level fighters. I think Avanesyen is world level. I dont think he is up there with the top boys who are world class but he is a genuine top 10-15 fighter.

Bit off topic but I think another of Booth's fighters are going to lose soon. I think Courtenay is going to lose to Ball in the rematch.

Yeah I sort of agree with this, I think the weight could be a problem. Kelly is big for a welter but doesn’t have much power, maybe his stamina would be better up in weight? Groves was a proper super middle with a very powerful jab which opponents had to think twice about, Haye was a proper beast at cruiser.

I think he will end up moving up in weight but I don’t necessarily think it’s the best option.

He's still living off his haye and groves heyday, I've never known nothing like it when groves dropped him during the froch camp and took that paddy on.

Thats a fair point. I think Groves is a better long range fighter than Kelly, and Haye is better at setting traps, timing you on the way in, and exploding with that power as you say. This kid Kelly let's opponents walk inside on him and still has his hands down. He reminds me of an offensive fighter whom is trying to appear slick. Like how Malignaggi looked slick but was easy to hit and used to get beat up in some fights.

Is it weird to say he’s maybe too big for welter but too small for super-welter? He’s an odd one , maybe he just needs to fight completely differently and we’ll see an improvement.

Nah not weird, loads of fighters fall into that category including Kell Brook.

Like you read my mind mate, I was gonna say it all seems very similar to Brook. As said I think he should be looking to train with someone else.

Groves had that left jab though if Kelly had that in his arsenal he could keep fighters off him a bit better like Ava tonight

Yeah Domestically it makes sense with Fowler, Cheeseman and Metcalf.

Yeah I listened to Groves’ version of events on that Boxing Lives interview and Booth’s behaviour seemed completely outrageous. Would like to hear Booth’s version but he’s usually too cagey in interviews and too many years have passed now probably. Anyway, agree that was thoroughly weird.
