I think the main issue with Enzo's mental state is that he is kidding himself and deep down he must know it. He was not caught by a lucky punch. IMO he froze when hit with the first decent shot and Haye took advantage shortly after that. He needs to be realistic with himself - if he truly believes in himself, then get in there and do us all proud! Don't bother with the Bobby Gunns of this world.
Thing is I know where Enzo is from and I know the places he trains like Bonymaen and Townhill in the Swansea area (when he is not training at the Calzaghe camp which is miles outside of Swansea) and therefore the kind of people that he is mixing with and used to being around. These people are called "mushes" townie people - and they can never admit defeat and never admit they wrong and never admit someone is better than them. I dont think Enzo is anywhere near as ignorant or stupid as a regular townie mug he is a intelligent man - but some of this attitutde has bound to have rubbed off on him because he has probaly grown up around it all. Bottom line: If David Haye fought him 10 times and knocked him out 10 times Enzo would never admit that he was better. Its not in the nature of these townies to do that.
I seen Enzo the week of the David Haye fight on the Monday in his car - I was really excited the week of the fight to see a Swansea fighter invovled in a fight so big. I honestly thought he could knock Haye out. I bet Enzo is frustrtated he never really caught Haye with anything. It was a nightmare night for the Swansea Scrapper.
Yup, when you're in with some leagues above you it normally turns into a bad dream. Lockett found out the same thing recently.
The difference was that Enzo Macc really wanted to win against Haye. Lockett didn't seem too fussed about beating Pavlik, (or losing for that matter).
I don't think Lockett cares about anything other than himself, that is why I want him to be KTFO by anyone he faces. The bloke is just a wanker :deal Maccarinelli just blew it big time - though I wouldn't have expected him to beat Haye full stop, I would have been interested to have seen whether he caused him any problems, or whether he was just a fraud. Guess we will never know really, as he was blasted out in two.
It said in Boxing News - out yesterday - that Maccarenelli is now off the Audley Harrisson bill in Birmingham. As Jonathan Banks has pulled out of the WBO title fight he was having. So now FW is trying to make Enzo Maccarenelli V Alex Aeeve - (or something like that can't remeber his name) So Enzo can have a straight crack back at regaining his WBO title. Enzo V Alex - who wins that one - how good is this Alex guy?
Never heard of him. Time for a Boxrec check. ... 27 years old, Russian, 15-0 with 14 knockouts. That looks good, although he hasn't fought anyone I've heard of except Tua victim Talmadge Griffis and Lee Swaby. Good amateur career, lost a couple close ones to Solis. Would seem to be below Enzo's level, certainly less experienced at pro level, or maybe it'll be a Hide-Vitali kind of surprise for Macca...
At least Macca will be fighting someone with ambition the ony time that has happened was against David Haye and he got mauled inside 2 rounds
i met enzo in vegas for the jc/bh fight.i spoke to him for about ten minuest s and he was properly gutted to lose to david haye.you could tell by the way he talked. nice guy, really down to earth
I can believe he is totally gutted He probaly kicks himself he didn't seize his oppurtunity better instead of freezing a bit like I think he did
