How do you know Peter is "not reformed"? He repaid £1m of his proceeds from crime to the government and is now a respected boxing trainer.
It's all about the jab imo. Flicking a jab from the hip is not going to deter an opponent from coming in on the inside. In fact, it's more of an invitation. He uses his footwork to switch the angle straight off a shot but although it looks class it's exhausting. I've only seen a few elite fighters able to sustain that for 12 rounds. For me, there's gotta be another layer added to his style that doesn't burn up the fuel and that's got to involve doing the ugly stuff. Double jab from the shoulder then clinch and spoil. Much like Groves v Eubank where he showed the best way to deal with a pressure fighter with a top chin. Groves didn't have the best gas tank and has his career went on he learned to make up for that with his boxing IQ and willingness to do the ugly stuff to win fights. I wouldn't write him off yet. He's took on a couple of quality fighters now in only a few fights when others pad their records out so he deserves credit for that.
That first paragraph is spot on. I was watching the Broner fight last night and when he was boxing with a high guard and flicking his jab it was totally ineffective. As soon as he switched to his shoulder roll defence where he was shooting the jab from the hip with no telegraph he was actually landing them and preventing Santiago from coming inside. Likewise I'm not writing Kelly off just yet. There were moments in the first couple of rounds where his skills were mind-blowing. He is so talented.
If you have paid £1m back to POC your a serious criminal and besides everyone knows Peter still at it believe me
Straight member of the public? We're talking boxing here, not who could get a DBS or whatever. Boxing is littered with people with naughty pasts. What a strange post.
Everyone knows Peter Fury was a serious criminal. He admits it and paid the price by doing time and repaying a huge chunk of his ill-gotten earnings. Do you have any proof Peter Fury is "still at it"?
It's not really a strange post. It's his view that it's unethical to enter into a boxer-trainer relationship with someone who, allegedly, still engages in certain activities. I don't think that is unreasonable. I can only speak for myself, and I wouldn't want anything to do with such a person. But many, perhaps most, would put self-interest above ethics.
No one thought he would go on to world level because of 3 left hooks in a row.. ..6 left hooks in a row on the other hand!
Definitely not exposed, I think what happened last night is what a lot of people thought would happen. Not really sure where he goes, is the gas tank poor becuase of being tight at the weight
No it’s not a strange post you have plenty of straight coaches who struggle to make ends meet and by the way some are really good at what they do so why would someone recommend a serious criminal who has - is making millions out of drugs and not the honest people in our game ?
What Peter Fury does outside of boxing is his own business. I have absolutely no idea what that is. However, he is an excellent coach. What I would say to you and @Safin that boxing is full of people with a naughty past (and possibly present) at all levels. If a fighter like Josh Kelly went to Fury, he wouldn't be involved in anything else but boxing. It's not like Lock Stock where they're having a game of Poker in the ring or having a dog fight round the back.
There was no need to trade with Ava last night. He could have stayed on the outside all night, pot shot the guy to death and grabbed if he was bull rushed or caught trapped in a corner. His shell defense is leaky too so that needs some work from someone who really knows the nuances. Hes got so many good points but he just makes poor decisions.
