I posted in the Eubank thread Before i had watched the whole fight card tonite. Never seen so many towels been thrown in and definitely erring on the early side. Definitely a result of the Piers Morgan show. So it isn't just the refs, it's the corners too petrified of anything happening to their fighter in terms of permanent damage. Corners should always have this in their minds Don't see this all as a bad thing.
I don't see it as a bad thing either. I don't get the machismo of going out on your shield. Kelly was almost out in r5, was down twice in r6 and when his legs wobbled it was over. Why let him take another 10 blows to the head? The fight before (sorry I can't think of their names) the loser was being smashed from pillar to post in their final round. No problem with that stoppage either.
100% justified action in any fight. Should have happened in fights like DDD last fight. Some refs just push it too far and some corners do to cos they can’t lose face. But at the end of the day it’s the boxers health that should be upmost priority.
I think it's more due to fighters taking a besting than trainers maybe watching a show only a small percentage of the population saw....
I also think that with no fans it puts less pressure on the corners to throw the towel in. It was refreshing to see for Kelly and Charlton's corners to do that. I liked Ian John Lewis' decision to not let Gordon continue against Fisher as well.
My Facebook lit up with women saying they phoned their dads to put ITV on at 9 because they remember staying up watching him together as a kid on a Sat night, etc. It was a trip down memory lane for the nation.
Yes totally agree, and you can see how a fight is developing a lot of corners I feel are sometimes hesitant to do so because of what Is at stake but the chances of Kelly winning that fight were slim to none so what Is the point of him showing how brave and tough he is for a couple more rounds. It was only going to get worst and the same outcome.
