Silly isnt it, how many fighters lie about how tall they are it is a very common insecurity indeed or tactic depending on who is lying.

It’s been going on for years. I remember when 6’3” became the new 6’1”. Now 6’5” is the magic number.

Joe Bugner did not lie about his height but he would be listed at least as tall as 6’6” now just to not make a lier out of everyone else.

Unfortunately Buddy being even bigger than Max can make people forget that Max himself was no normal sized heavyweight.

one was big. The other was even bigger.https://www.digitalcommonwealth.org/search/commonwealth:b56457340

The odds favor Walcott by decision, but Max potentially could knock him out at any time in the fight and would be a live threat at all times. Walcott would have to be in great shape and fight a very intelligent disciplined fight, because one wrong move and good night. My money would be on Walcott, but I would be nervous until the final bell rang.

I read that too. This goes back to the early 30s.
Walcott had no manager in his early years and used to have a full time job to feed his family. Boxing wasn't really his priority for a long time.

I like the Baer who beat Schmeling to get to Walcott , around 8-10.

In reality he was 1 - 1 with Louis. Joe left the ring before the decision was announced, convinced he had lost his title.
Baer too crude to beat Walcott for me.

If this is a focused and angry Max, I just do not see Walcott making it out on his feet.

Max was a beast when he was focused.

JJW all the way for me

Even in Baer's best result - the Schmeling win - he looked crap

JJW counters him silly all night and win a UD

Richard, as a dedicated Gunsmoke fan, I can say that to appear bigger than the great James Arness, is pretty damned big indeed:thumbsup:

OK, but some people think that Schmeling was better than Walcott.
