Lewis's implemented a devastating strategy that is seldomly effective against wrestlers, and for that, kudos to him. Landing an uppercut with precision, knocking Blaydes out on his feet, took patience, timing and power. What makes the result of last night's fight even more surprising is that in the past, Lewis typically had problems staying on his feet against less talented grapplers. Derrik's ungainly style made him a considerable underdog entering the fight. This content is protected
he has some serious power. He said he was just waiting for that moment to land an uppercut or a knee. The two late blows when curtis was already stiff were unnecessary.
Lewis is a damn savage. And it´s hard to believe that he is again at the top of the division. Crazy. He stole Ngannou´s ranking and now did the same with Blaydes. And good for him! Dude had a rough childhood and has earned everything the hard way.
I hope Lewis gets a title shot but the top of the division is gonna be clogged up this year with Francis vs Stipe and the winner facing Jone Bones Jones so they might make him fight the winner of Rozenstrike vs Gane. Blades was clearly outstriking lewis and chewing up his legs but Lewis was landing sneaky counters every now and then. Blades shouldn't have shot for a takedown IMO he could have won by putting on a striking clinic. I am big fan of both guys tho lowkey hate fights where I like both dudes it was tough seeing Blades take those shots and just uncomfortable hearing him moan and then snore and then seeing his reaction when he woke up asked the ref what happened after he was kod. Lewis might be the hardest puncher in the UFC.
I'm pretty desensitized to violence being a boxing and mma fan as long as I have been, but yeeesh that was tough to watch with Lewis celebrating while you could hear Curtis gasping and groaning in the background like he was having a seizure. I'm not made at Derrick for celebrating; the guy just doubled his paycheck and possibly lined up a 2nd title shot (4 wins in a row). I'm just saying this is a seriously tough way to earn a living. Tough spot for Blaydes too. Not many fresh matchups, maybe a trip to Bellator is incoming.
Blaydes threw that away. He was totally having his way with Lewis on the feet. No reason to shoot for lazy takedowns like that. All this proves is how terrible the HW division is. Miocic and Cormier are the only truly elite guys who have campaigned there in recent years. Lewis' skill level is laughable, someone with his skillset wouldn't be top 100 in most other divisions.
Lewis is garbage yet he is probably up there with the most wins in UFC heavyweight history. What a joke. MMA will be bigger than football said Dana. Yeah ok buddy whatever you say.
The HW division is a pile of turds other than Stipe. Considering the top 10, it's full of has beens and shot fighters. Others like Blaydes and Lewis are awful yet in the top 5. A fat injured DC was able to easily toy with Lewis and rag doll him shows the difference in levels he and Stipe have.
