Hey guys... I just want to bring something up... I was just watching couple of heavyweight fights from 90' "Golden era of boxing" and then I watched some current heavyweight fights.....I don't know if that's only my impression....But WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE...MY GOSH... Not only in how they looked....but how much they could dish out and how much they could take of those huge punches back in the 90'....Now I see heavyweight fight...few big punches connect and we see it having big impact on that fighter...dancing, legs starting shaking.....but then it was almost like they didn't feel any pain.......I don't know what you guys say....but because of less strict and sometimes non existing PED testing back then ...that 90's era looked how it looked.
Fighters during the 90`s relied mainly on athleticism than fundamentals, the heavyweight division during that decade is overated, the 70`s wa much better, Ali and Frazier would have beaten every fighter from the 90`s era, Lewis would have given the problems at his peak, Bowe was too easy to hit as was Holy, Tyson faded badly after he fired Rooney in 1988, Foreman was slow and old Moorer had no chin or movement, Mercer was easy to hit, Witherspoon was slower than when he fought Holmes,I include Holmes in the 70`s era and feel he would have dominated during the 90`s with only Lewis given him a lot of trouble.
That is because they are super heavyweights now. If you watch Cruiser fights they are similar to 90s Hw fights.
