I have Carlos Monzon winning this hypothetical match late in the fight by a TKO11. Monzon was the more consistent fighter, won 82 fights since his last loss in 1964. He was champion from 1970 until his retirement in 1977, and had 14 title defenses. D. Tiger was no easy task, he was very aggressive, and could hit with either hand. But I feel that he would make a good fight of it early, pressuring Carlos. This fight would resemble the title defense against Bad Bennie Briscoe on Nov 11 1972, Carlos countered and moved, setting traps for Bennie. And much like the Briscoe bout, Monzon would spear Tiger with his long stiff left jab, then tagging an onrushing Tiger with his right hand that has produced 61 kayos. Tiger also will have his moments, tagging Carlos with his hard right hand, much like Briscoe did in their title bout.
Monzon wins wide via points or even late stoppage. Tiger is tailor made for a master jabber like Monzon who will lead him all over the ring peppering him from range and leading him into trap after trap.
Monzon has all of the advantages here except for maybe workrate but that will be negated with Monzon's jab slowing Tiger down. If Tiger can get inside he can do damage but I can see Monzon winning the clinches and not engaging inside. I agree with the previous assessments of a late stoppage for Carlos or an 8-4 type decision.
Not much is certain in fantasy discussions hence the name but I am almost certain no Middlweight in history could match Tiger in the clinches bar that your post is completely logical in my eyes.
Feel like I have just watched the fight ! clinical and unnerving account of what would have happened, agree entirely with prognosis , for me only 3 MWs can be given a realistic chance of toppling the mighty Monzon, that is SRR, Greb and The Marvelous one, all the rest would be grist to his mill. keep well.
Me too. I just can't imagine him being worn down. I mean every man CAN be worn down, but I can't imagine it with Tiger. He was made of diamonds.
Yep, the punches Carlos would hit you with were sort of slow ( in some respects ) and had a wearing down effect over the bout, hence he didn't score many early round KOs , cant see this type of style stopping Tiger, as witnessed ( Foster fight ) it was the more concussive puch that would be needed to fell Tiger IMO. keep well.
He beat a couple of real bombers in his time and tho they weren't classy enough to keep sustained pressure on like a Monzon they could BANG. Tiger would bring his own intensity to the match as well and tho at a stylistic, height and reach disadvantage I'm sure he'd give a fine account of himself. Even tho he was pole axed Tiger gave a decent account of himself at times against Foster tho he was old, at the end of his career, well above where he should be fighting and hopelessly outsized against a guy with a great jab. It'd be fun.
