Give em an under dog story to get in to. Ali v Liston and Foreman. Give them the build up, how they stood no chance and the odds were stacked. Tyson v Douglas or Holyfield, Holyfield v Bowe 2, Fury V Wilder.
Pernell Whitaker Vs Greg Haugen for the thread title. If I was showing someone a fight to introduce them to boxing maybe Pacquiao-Marquez 4 in terms of a more recent pick. Enough action, good technical skills and only 6 rounds with a devastating one punch KO
Yes, that's another good un. And lump in Duran v Barkley. The old war horse coming back against the snarling baddie.
Leonard-Hearns I is my GFOAT so I’d probably pick that... so many ebbs and flows and plot twists... the puncher became the boxer and the boxer became the puncher. Ali-Liston I is another one... underdog story, epic buildup, one of the greatest boxing performances of all time, Ali’s charisma, and a bit of villainy with the eye incident. Or in recent years, Ruiz-Joshua I... would not be surprised if they made a movie out of that. Ruiz jumping around like a little kid after the KO was a classic moment.
Benn - McClellan Hagler - Hearns Hamed - Kelley Slugfests are best IMO for introducing newbies to boxing.
If it’s just one fight, Hagler Hearns. Short, sweet and right to the point. There are so many great selections already made here. One underrated fight that hardly ever gets mentioned though is Rafael Marquez vs Tim Austin. Great action, high drama, fantastic finish. Another would be Jhonny Gonzalez vs Israel Vazquez.
If you can put a little context on it, Hamed - Barrera was also a great fight with a lot of drama This content is protected
You have to profile the person. Will they be a fan of a war, brutal knock outs or defensive theatrics... Hagler Hearns comes to mind for war. Tyson Frazier for a brutal KO. Show anyone Whitaker dodging De la Hoyas punches in round two and watch their eyes light up at his defense.
