Hearns clearly had too much for Ali in this condition, has anyone on this forum seen this footage?

Yes Hearns fought on the undercard of Ali's last fight with Berbick.

I remember reading an article about how Ali claimed he toyed with Hearns though witnesses told a different story.

Yes its been around years on youtube on and off....Ali was very ill....as far back as his 1977 appearence on Donohue you see the sudden softening of his voice the stiffer movements...others persistently are in denial...but its clear immediately after the shavers fight Ali was ill

Nice post up Mark...theres no one better on tgis forum at starting interesting varied threads :)

Yes. It's been around for 40 years now. It was on the broadcast and on the VHS tape of the Ali-Berbick fight that was commercially distributed. It had footage like that and whole prefight press conference in the Bahamas. But there is much better quality versions around without all the jacked up music.

Hearns was pretty much acting like a dick with Ali days before the fight. It wasn't really a sparring session. They were just supposed to work for the reporters down there covering the fight. Hearns really unloaded on him. Guess Hearns was trying to drop Ali to show he was still "the hitman" ... since it was his first fight since he lost to Leonard.

Ali masterful as always. He could have made a major mark on the 80' s division after he was robbed against Berbick. It will always be a mystery to me why he quit the game

He wasn't robbed he lost the fight he was slurring his speech no way he'd be aloud to fight after Berbick who was a middle of the road fighter at best.

I never understood the fact that Ali knew he was sick and still continued ... There's bravery and courage and then there's setting yourself up for punishment than can literally lessen your lifespan ....

Dream matches in the early 80's include Ali v Dokes and Ali v Weaver. I think he had the guile and athleticism to take both and grab at least a belt before rematching with Holmes, this time without the thyroid meds.

What a classless douchey way to treat a legend- I doubt Ali had any intent of hurting Hearns on camera i cannot say the same of Tommy whom most likely would not be able to make Ali blink anyways. I wished i had not seen this as a Hearns fan.
