Well said The talent he has combined with having a set of bollocks to be involved in big fights.... he should be a household name.
I can't see a UK broadcaster paying a big fee. @Journey Man makes a good point about BT Sport having Catterall, but they won't be paying out a massive sum on a guy they don't have on the roster. I think it goes on PPV and it does poorly. Josh is a great talent and it's a wonderful fight, but I don't think he's drawing massive numbers over here. That said, there's a lot of dross that's on PPV, this fight isn't dross and could be FOTY material.
Taylor is cut from the Billy Joe mould where he has been a **** outside of the ring and become thoroughly unlikeable. Some boxers can pull it off like Mike Tyson (******, street thug) Joshua (convicted drug dealer, racist), Fury (multiple prejudice's exposed) but others like Saunders, Galahad, Wilder etc end up as complete and utter scum in the eyes of the public. Anyway Josh is unpopular and fighting in a division with no crossover names so this fight does not sell, great fight for hardcore fans but regular PPV buyers will be left scratching there heads.
Regardless of what everyone thinks about Taylor's personality, he has huge self belief, a proper pair of cajones and has had a great career to date. Inside the ring and who he has faced thus far, you cannot fault the man.
Which makes it all the more frustrating I cannot warm to him! I want him and Saunders to lose and I know from a UK perspective I shouldn't.
I'm explaining why the fight will not sell on TV, because he's a **** has a small fanbase. Nothing personal.
Seen some people online worrying about the judges in this one.hope there's no robbing going down in Vegas.That being said I would think it would be in top ranks best interests if there is a clear winner he gets the nod.
I can't wait for the fight. What's interesting is that everybody into boxing loves the fight and pretty much everybody is picking Taylor to win. I don't think I've saw anybody at all pick Ramirez. Is anybody on here picking him to win? Usually part of the appeal of a fight this highly anticipated is because they're 50/50 where nobody can confidently pick a winner. Ramirez is obviously no walkover, I think he'll have moments of success, he comes to fight and can make an exciting fight, but it seems like everybody agrees he's just not good enough to beat Taylor. If I'm looking for reasons how Taylor could lose, I'd think it could be if Davison sets out a more cautious and defensive gameplan for him. I can't see this working with Taylor and can't see him fighting that way anyway, he's a naturally aggressive fighter with a high output, and I think that aggression would take over at some point, but the worry would be if Taylor adopts a defensive approach and Ramirez starts to build up a strong lead on the scorecards winning the early rounds leaving Taylor needing to win from behind or needing a KO and/or knockdowns. Not that Taylor has little chance of getting the KO, I just hope he doesn't leave himself a mountain to climb due to a slow start. Davison knows more about gameplans and the technical side of boxing than me and I'd like to think he knows trying to change Taylor's approach or style for this fight is probably a bad idea and we'll get the usual all-action, fierce Josh Taylor type of performance as usual. I think the fight will end up on BT PPV. I watched an interview with Bob Arum today saying there's the possibility of putting the fight on earlier over in the States so that it's at a more suitable time for the UK audience, about midnight - 1am. I know Taylor isn't a household name in the UK but I still think BT will pick it up and promote the hell out it and bank on a decent number of Scots buying the PPV as well. Although Taylor isn't even really a household name in Scotland either, he will get some decent exposure in the Scottish media. There will be media interest in the fight up here because it is such a massive fight and he'll end up on the likes of STV news and have big articles about him in the newspapers etc. It was the same with Ricky Burns when he started getting the big fights. I'm still surprised at how unknown Taylor is in Scotland outside of boxing fans and people who are into their sport, because usually the media make a fuss of our successful athletes in this country especially ones who are winning at the very highest level of their sport e.g Andy Murray, Chris Hoy, but he is gradually becoming more known and this fight will push him on even further. So I think all the Scottish boxing fans, hardcores and casuals (who don't spend fight nights down by the river) will buy the PPV along with the people who like sports in general who will get interested in a Scottish boxer fighting in an "undisputed championship" and "history making" fight that they will be hearing about for weeks prior to the fight. There's been far worse fights on PPV in the UK in recent years so I could definitely see this being on PPV if the fight is at a reasonable time and if BT do a good enough job with promoting it, I could see it doing well enough to get pass marks, numbers wise for what they would be hoping for.
Bob Arum got the serious hump with Sky for not picking up the Lomez v Lomachenko fight, 'absolute disgrace' was his exact words and he said the Usyk v Chisora PPV fight was utter trash. Eddie also snubbed the Crawford v Brook fight so I would be surprised if it gets on Sky. He will get recognition from the boxing journalists and hard core's but you don't get that mainstream exposure unless you sign for Matchroom these days. Tyson Fury is the only one who has managed it so far.
I predicted Ramirez to win on points. Taylor has only fought 1 round in about 18 months. I also think the judges will be kinder to Ramirez than Taylor.
