When people mention Carl Froch all I want to say is "Joe Cal-f**kin-zaghe would have taken him to school", props to Idles for the Joe bit. Pains me to say it but he was a very good fighter, not as good as he thinks he was but he was good. Shame he's such an idiot but you can only hope that one day he may somehow snap out of it, at least he's not fake humble though.
He's got a real dry sarcastic sense of humour where most can't work out if he's being serious or not. When you work out he's taking the **** you'll see he's not all that bad lol Groves more or less said the same thing on a podcast the other week.
I like Froch. He is a balloon and some of the stuff he comes out with is ridiculously cringy, and he hates being embarrassed to the point he’ll lie his way out of it - such as the 80K at Wembley thing, he later went on to joke about it and say he said it on purpose for a laugh rather than the likely truth that he was trying to show off and impress Floyd who couldn’t care less about him. As a boxer he was truly brilliant to watch. Technically his style was ugly with his low hands and poor footwork, but his toughness, perseverance and winning mentality meant he was rarely in a poor bout. He certainly raised the bar for British boxing and lit the way for the new lot - something we were desperate for after Hatton retired. With regards to the “I would smash him” statements, it’s rare that you find someone who is honest and doesn’t have that kind of mentality. Nigel Benn, Steve Collins have both been guilty of this in recent years. It’s actually refreshing to hear when someone says the opposite, for example Chris Eubank has been quite honest that he wanted none of Roy Jones Jr, and David Haye for all the stuff he spouted when he was active has recently commented how Tyson Fury would have likely battered him.
100% agree with this, he does make me laugh at times. The gloves are off episode v Groves is unreal because despite all the ‘mind games’ from Groves beforehand, Froch absolutely destroyed him in that. Don’t get me wrong, he can be a bit of a helmet and he takes himself too seriously at times. Aside from his obvious experience for 20 years boxing he actually doesn’t know much about boxing. I also think Froch was very underconfident as a fighter.
He’s grown on me. I like his dry sense of humour , and although aloof seems like a decent sort. I think it’s a Nottingham thing. Sorry to those from notts on here but most of those I’ve met from there have been fairly similar to Carl and lee !
Always thought he was an utter sniffer...**** of a bloke and people bum his resume....made the best use of the skills he had...he did have a great chin and good recovery powers ..but that's all I will say nice about the guy
I think for the second fight he employed a psychologist or somebody similar. There was a definite shift in his manner and how he went about the build up to the second fight.
Haha had to happen at some point...and we are all good mate..thanks for asking..hope your doing well as well I really wanted to like him cos he was such a double hard ******* but he just grated on me lol
I agree, he wasn't as confident as seems. I'm sure as teenager he had a break from the sport because he didn't think it was for him. An old coach told me after coming from behind to beat Jermain Taylor that he never boxed like he thought he was going to win. Which is probably true, great come from behind win but in reality Taylor completely gassed. Froch was really good for British boxing though and probably not appreciated enough for what he did at the time.
I think his dry sense of humour is a bit of an under statement. We're talking Sahara here, and it's long winded..... Hence he can come across at times as a bit of a petroleum powered two wheeled motor vehicle neck upwards personal protection device.
That middle bit about his outward narcissism being used as a shield to disguise his own lack of confidence is spot on.
