the kids a beast, but do you honestly think he's ready for Canelo? id like to see him Vs Plant/Charlo. solid win tho, Ellis showed Heart. what's some of his weakness? I think he drops his hands low too much.

Very one dimensional. Can't see him beating Plant or Saunders either.

Danny Jacobs, Callum Smith, Gilberto Ramirez (what happened to him), Eubank Jr at SMW are all options Benavidez team should be looking at making. At least for the reason that although they are on the decline or not that good, they would be better than the scrubs he's been fighting or an Anthony Dirrell rematch.

Benavidez has deceptively strong defensive skills. Rarely gets tagged flush and even when he does he has a good chin. I have never seen him rocked.

Canelo should be fighting Benavidez next. That is the only fight that matters at 168. Canelo is ducking Benavidez and anyone who follows boxing knows this. Benavidez would put a beating on Plant. BJS is a tougher call since he is pretty elusive but I think Benavidez stops them both. Ellis was no slouch and Benavidez still made him quit. Benavidez would KO Smith inside of 6.

Come on, Canelo, stop ducking the tougher fighters. Stop fighting the has-beens or smaller fighters. Stop using weight clauses to tilt everything in your favor. People are tired of it.

If Canelo can beat Benavidez I will tip my hat to him but until then Canelo is a fake champion. Lost twice to GGG and won't fight him again until GGG is 40. Pathetic.

He’s fine offensively, just needs to work on defense. He hardly got hit in the Angulo fight but was a pretty easy target in this one. He definitely needs some more experience if he wants canelo, but by the time he gets it he may already be at 175.

I think he will demolish Canelo, being a much bigger man with solid chin and high work rate.

if the canelo fight happens its going to include a rehydration clause that will limit benavidez biggest advantage, being a lot bigger and heavier than the opponent. benavidez can take the license to plant his feet and throw heavy combinations because no one fires back, who knows how he will react to getting hit and countered. Benavidez is a weight bully that should be thinking about bivol and beterbiev rather than canelo

Not all that much, really. He wasn’t really challenged. He ate up whatever Ellis gave him. He wasn’t pushed at any point.

As far as Canelo is concerned, Benavides hasn’t been tested anywhere near how Canelo would test him. He’d not be able to simply march up to Canelo and trade. Canelo would make him use energy. Make him move. Make him defend. Make him work. I wouldn’t pick Benavides to beat him. Certainly not yet.

That David is not ready for Canelo. I saw nothing in the match with Ellis that would trouble Canelo.

I think due to styles Plant might have a better (but low) chance against Canelo than against Benavidez. DB has the reach advantage, his hands are pretty fast too, and he doesn't care about getting hit with a jab on the way in.

I don't see why anyone at the top level would get in the ring with him now that he's beltless, especially Charlo. Who wants that kind of problem? Hopefully he the WBC enforces his mandatory claim in the beginning of 2022.

I didn't like the way Benevidez looked. He's looked kinda thin, meaning he's draining pretty badly to stay in the division.

DB doesn't move his head...a fighter like Ellis was touching him all night. Against elite level competition, he will not get away with throwing multiple combination WITHOUT getting countered.

DB doesn't have one punch power which means that the elite level fighters with defense will not wilt against him. As Alvarez has proven, being tall and long doesn't mean automatic victory.

I don't see Benavidez beating Sanders, Plant, Charlo, Andrade or Alvarez if he fought any of them today...but I like DB, he'll beats the Love's, Ellis's & Dirrel's of the world.

plant would box his head off, only way i see plant losing that fight is because he is kind of brittle and might get caught with something big.

Last night didn't really show us anything that we didn't already know about Benavidez but I still like his chances vs Canelo.
