THompson was pretty effective blocking the jab until later rds but Vlad went to the body a bit, he hurt Thompson with a right to the body but did not punch enough....Thompson was getting weary but that last right hand was enough ...Did anyone see anything new from Vlad
i've never seen wlad throw so many lead straight rights.... in general wlad threw the right alot more than usual and the left alot less..
Thats what happens when an orthodox fighter fights a southpaw. The jab can become a lot less efective. the most efective punch for an orthodox fighter to use on a southpaw is the straight right.
Vlad showed some work to the body which wasn't much but is an improvement over his previous style of throwing NO punches to the body. I'm glad he laid off the swatting left for the most part. That was an annoying habit. I was also happy to see Vlad abandon his strict "saftey-first" style and throw more combintions and more rights than he has in his last several fights. What still bothers me about Vlad? He can be fairly one dimensional in that he sticks with a straight up-and-down stance and must always snap back to position when he commits himself. He needs to maitain certain distance and seems to panic when fighters get inside on him. (Still vulnverable to a Corrie Sanders-type fighter). He is awkward and sometimes sticks his chin out. He still seems to get gassed with any sustained effort. All in all, he is athletic, disciplined and powerful, with a hell of a right cross. But I'm always waiting for him to get knocked on his ass.
