    Hi folks,

Thanks in advanced for any recommendations.

I'm new to boxing. Did ~5 years practical Karate a decade ago (self defence for street fighting, not sport/tournament style) but over time have lost my confidence. I'm going to also pick up my MA with an apparently good Karate/MT club, but I also want to jump into boxing for the emphasis on stepping into the fight.

I'm looking to avoid clubs that are basically HIIT sessions masquerader as boxing clubs. I'm looking for somewhere to develop good form, a more confident fighting mindset, so a club/coach that has an emphasis on sparring too.

I'm in central London (W1) but don't mind travelling an hour or so. Google returns a flurry of boxing gyms so if anyone can offer recommendations then that'll be really helpful.

I don't know of any specific clubs but I would look at England boxing approved amateur clubs. That should weed out the fitness boxercise type clubs.

    Good lad.

I think as the fellow poster said finding a aba regulated club will really get u what u need.

I'm old in the tooth.....left the amateur scene in another century but 20 years ago you'd be better off looking west...so a 15-20 min journey on the tube....

As far as w1 goes .....a year and a half or so ago there was a Cuban amateur boxing club practically opposite Westfield (the a40 side near grenfell)....I dont know if all-stars in Harrow is still going

Thanks both. I have had a look at the ABA website, seems like all I can really do now it wait until they reopen.

I assume that's the https://cubanboxing-academy.co.uk/ ? Seems decent and a 30 min jog from home. I've given them a call and will go and check them out when they hope to open in April.

Harrow All-Stars is still going, reviews seem to suggest its pretty no fuss boxing and hardwork :bash: so look forward to check that out too.

    Cheers

The Peacock looks just great- thanks for pointing it out. Now if only this 'lockdown' will f*k off out the way

If you agree with somebody out the Peacock to pay you a pound for training there you would be classed as a professional sports person therefore exempt :):)

Hi chaps, any recommendations for SE/central London? Based in Deptford but willing to travel.

Like the original poster definitely not looking for a white collar/health club thing, did some sessions with a club at home last year but would need to join as a beginner. Looking to give boxing a proper go now the lockdowns are (hopefully) over.

Peacock looks class but says online they’ve moved to Epping, bit unclear though.
