Above average but not great. I didn't like what I saw against Golota especially.

IMO, of course, he seemed to me to have a very good chin. As an example, Holyfield hit him with a real good one, and he got up. Evander may have been sick, but he got everything into that. (In fact, I think Evander beat himself with that do or die punch.) I'm not sure many would have gotten up from that shot. Bowe did. I can't say it was a great chin as he never fought the hardest hitters in his own era. It may have been great. We just will never know for sure.

Tommy had next to no chin. He was always getting knocked out

    Bowe was never knocked out

Getting dropped by Holyfield isn’t an indictment of a guy’s chin unless you want to say Ray Mercer didn’t have a good chin.

Evander dropped Ray with a single shot. That’s an impressive feat for any puncher in any era.

At the start of his career it was great. As his career continued and he trusted his chin enough to only have an average defense in place, his punch resistance lessened from accumulating punishment over his career.

He was never Golovkin or Hagler but it was a solid nine on a one to ten scale, that fell to a seven by the time of the Golota fights.

His lack of defense seemed to take a huge toll on his chin by 95. He's was lucky that he faced a ill Holyfield that night.

I dont think he had an elite chin. He could be hurt. He was hurt by Holyfield, Hide and Golota. But he would keep fighting and had a tremendous fighting heart. Id say it was good not great. Mcall had a great chin.
