Cleans out 168 so beats the likes of Saunders Benavidez Plant And then goes upto 175 and takes out the top guys there such as Beterbiev, Bivol and Gvodzyk to unify where does that put him in terms of his legacy from a resume point of view Without the controversy?
He had 2 fights in less than a year against 2 murderous high skilled boxers, went war with both, was dropped against both, took many hard punches from both. Gvodzyk looks like a intelligent guy who doesn't want to risk his health at 33, trying to get a title shot against another beast, he had enough. Also the possibility of Adonis Stevenson getting disabled or death must given him to think about. Boxing is a tough sport. https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-sports/3043223-why-oleksandr-gvozdyk-retired-from-boxing.html
Gvozdyk is retired. But yes, if he beats Benevidez (I don't rate Saunders and Plant very highly), Bivol, and and Beterbiev (like in 2022, not 2024) with no shenanigans (rehydration clauses, short training camps), he'll have redeemed himself.
Benavidez seems pretty good right now. Big, young, strong, and aggressive. He doesn't have Canelo's skills but he brings a lot to the table.
he wasnt dropped vs stevenson but he was down on the cards. some argue wrongfully so but it was a close fight to me and he ate some big shots and he had to basically kill stevenson to win. i always felt there was something lacking in gvosdyk. but a lot of it was just many of us pretended that stevenson was a C+ level fighter. looking back he was just a Hateable A level boxer with a lot of tools.
He fought kovalev and got the **** out of the division as fast as he can the same way Pacquiao noped out of defending the belt he won against Margarito. Difference is Pacquiao didn't pretend, he gave his belt away while laughing and saying nevermind.
buterelo is nice lad but shengenian and buterelo hometown officiated, judged and refereed horsemeat belts champ. Nothing more.
In the same place he is now, a place of his own creation via Clenbuterol, Catch-weights, Rehydration clauses, Short camp offers, absurd history of ridiculous judging... as a champion with multiple asterisks attached to his brand.
