Luis Ortiz had just taken the title from Burns.

Smoking Joe Frazier, but only because my parents didn’t have the minerals to enroll me early so I could say Jimmy Ellis.

For me it was Muhammad Ali and WBA Champion Ernie Terrell. In my district, we did not have kindergarten. Just straight to 1st grade.

Thought it was Iron Mike but I just checked and it was actually Buster Douglas when I started elementary in 1990.

My earliest boxing memories are all Tyson and Camacho because my older bro loved (and in the case of Macho, loved to hate) them.

When I started Junior High in 1971, Smoking Joe Frazier was the World Heavyweight Champion and Muhammad Ali was the champion again when I graduated from High School in 1977.

It was his second reign for me, Richard. 1974. He'd just beat big old George.

I do recall that fight, listened to it on the radio. I was in the 10th grade in High School.
