Someone could make an absolutely brilliant spoof film of Matchroom and Sky boxing and there would be scope for endless sequels. Just change the names of the companies and the people slightly.

Fair enough, I appreciate that. Obviously I’d prefer to watch all fights for free and if there’s only one or two PPVs for top level fights that would be great but unfortunately that’s not the landscape of boxing at the moment. I also agree that only the best fights should be PPV though you can’t usually foresee that in advance.

For example, Joshua vs Parker was a heavyweight title unification fight. Two unbeaten heavyweight champions - definitely PPV. The fight itself, a bit dull and a foregone conclusion after a few rounds. Gatti vs Ward? 16 losses between them, both seen to be on the slide with their best days behind them, and a fight that meant nothing really in the division. If you’d have had a crystal ball you’d have paid £100 to watch that live.

The quote I read from Hearn is he feels justified if these PPV fights do 300,000 buys because obviously there’s demand. Unfortunately he’s right - and there’s obviously a line for them to tow - it may be a fight needs X amount of buys to be profitable and if it is, great for them.

I’m not arguing that people should buy the PPV - not at all. I’m not arsed if people do or don’t. My stance is that I can afford the £20, I love boxing and I’ve got nothing else to do Saturday evening.

Even if Whyte loses this fight, he will be lined up to fight the loser (or winner?) of Chisora / Parker which would make sense for Eddie, rematches against those fighters whose fights were close.

Then Eddie can sell it as must win fight, if he won against either of those two he'd be back on PPV again. Wouldn't surprise me if even made one of those fights PPV anyway if that happened.

To watch two of the best twenty Heavyweights on the planet at the moment, fight, in the comfort of my own home for a mere £20....

Too many people here have no idea of what boxing use to be like, and how hard it was just to watch a big fight live, and to do so at home, even thirty years ago.

You (we) are so lucky to live in this era, where we can get our hands on virtually any fight that matters. We have never had it so good!

£25 to watch a pointless rematch where the defeated got absolutely starched by a 40 year old, and there's no belt on the line? Take my money!

"But it's the price of 4/5 pints, Bomber!" I hear you say. I'd rather the money go on those pints instead and I find out the result via an upload by a Russian hermit, 'ta very much.

Whyte vs Hunter or Usyk? No problem. But not this.

I'd argue Hearn generates the demand rather than it being there. Nobody was demanding Whyte vs Povetkin, and just because he can hype and spin the fight to make X amount of buys doesn't make it justifiable. Boxing is supposed to be a sport and the more people who point his garbage out the better. It won't put the breaks on but at least boxing should retain some integrity and stop the slip into WWE-style sports entertainment (Eddie's wet dream).

'We wanna see it again don't we Matt?'

'Lets bring Dave Coldwell in who's with Andy Clarke, see how he's scoring it...' *camera pans to Penfold looking like one of the Gallagher's because the microphone hasn't been lowered.

With all due respect; Boxing sold its integrity a century or so before Pro wrestling. It is insult to Vince McMahon to compare the two. They deliver what they tell you they are going to deliver, boxing never has, and indeed cannot make the same guarantee.

I'm not expecting to change anything by not buying the PPV, there are too many idiots who like to light their Benson & Hedges with £20 notes and that's their choice those types will keep the insanity going. All I know is once the final bell is rung on the main event of the latest PPV I won't be left with a feeling of emptiness and a sense of anger that I'd allowed myself to be taken in the propaganda as I have been on a few occasions and wasted £20 on an event that should by all rights be a Saturday Fight Night card or Channel 5.

The thought of Dillian Whyte using a toilet seat made of 24 carat gold must make you very happy because that's what you're paying for. Anyway, enjoy the PPV on Saturday !!!

Hardly! He's not wrong in anything he said. Everyone will have an opinion on it.

PPV buyer or not, I don't think either side are drama queens.

I won't be buying it, won't make any difference to anything.

But I would prefer not to spend a score on two Roidheads.

Please don't get me wrong mate, I'm not saying WWE has no integrity. They clearly market themselves as sports entertainment.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE
As in other professional wrestling promotions, WWE shows are not legitimate contests, but purely entertainment-based performance theater, featuring storyline-driven, scripted, and partially choreographed matches, though matches often include moves that can put performers at risk of injury, even death, if not performed correctly. This was first publicly acknowledged by WWE's owner Vince McMahon in 1989 to avoid taxes from athletic commissions. Since the 1980s, WWE publicly has branded its product as sports entertainment, acknowledging the product's roots in competitive sport and dramatic theater.

Boxing is a sport, but has been edged towards sports entertainment. "storyline-driven, scripted, and partially choreographed matches" almost describes Haye vs Bellew.. it basically does describe Mcgregor vs Mayweather.

Boxing (or any sport) shouldn't be storyline-driven.. even if a good story helps, and that's where it's in real danger of losing its integrity.
