Who has the better resume, Lennox Lewis or Wladimir Klitschko

A good friend has told me that Alexander Povetkin is superior to Evander Holyfield and that Wladimir Klitschko has a better resume than Lennox Lewis.

What are your thoughts

 

...well, I'm way more of a Povetkin fan than a Holyfield one, but, not sure I can get behind that statement.

 

Lewis, by far. Lewis had two losses, to Klitschko's five. Lewis beat the far better names and did so more convincingly. It is also worth stating that he didn't do so on a spongey canvas, with weird contractual clauses in his adopted home like Klitschko did... Lewis went to America and conquered it.

 

Lewis, but it’s a lot closer than his fanboys would like to admit.

If your friend truly believes that Povertkin is better than Holyfield he knows next to nothing about boxing.And Lewis `s resume trumps Klitschko`s but not by much

Probably fair to say that neither of them ever won a genuine 'superfight' against a top fighter in his prime.

I'm not sure I'd like to say what Wlad's best win was. Povetkin? David Haye [on only 9 toes]? In some ways his best performances were IMO in defeat, doing better than he had a right to do aged 40ish against Fury and Joshua.

Lewis definitely has better names on his resume. Vitali [a good win, all in all], Holyfield was still decent, Mercer was still quite a good fighter when Lewis took him on. Golota was good on paper [i.e. if you assumed his form from the Bowe fights wasn't an aberration]. Tua was decent and dispatched very easily.

 

Vitali Klitschko was a top fighter in his prime, and lewis beat the hell out of him.

Better resume? Lewis by a c-hair. Both were excellent champs and I’m a bigger fan of Lewis but their accomplishments were pretty close. Wlad was king during a weak HW era but he was very tough in his prime and even afterwards.

Head to head, I’d have to go with Wlad but it’s pretty much a 50-50 in my opinion. That would not be an enjoyable fight to watch no matter who you were rooting for unless you like lots of jabbing and clutching.

 

Wlad managed to dominate the heavyweight division due to the lack of great challengers during his time at the top, and the fact his big brother chose to let him have two of the belts. When he did get beat up, he didn’t rematch, he sent big Brother Vitali to fight his conquerors.
Lewis dominated the second Greatest heavyweight era ever, beat every man he ever faced, avenging his two knockout losses with emphatic destruction of both men in the rematches. Lewis defeated every professional opponent he faced.
Lennox fought every major contender of his era, except for Bowe, and that was bowe's fault. He beat every single man he faced at least once, and avenged every defeat.
Klitscko held his titles because his big brother Vitali had promised their mother never to fight him. His worst defeats were never avenged.

Great post. I didnt consider the rematches. Lewis looked so good in his rematches and handled his business like a true champion. Most modern boxers don’t have the guts to give guys rematches - Teo Lopez. Lewis was a great champ and was under appreciated in his time. I was a big fan and enjoyed his fights and reign as champ.

 

Both resumes frankly sucked balls, despite both being clearly good fighters.

Klitschkos best wins come in the form of clinching Haye and Povetkin to death. Should have been DQs. He literally couldn't handle boxing these guys so had to resort to clinching them 60% of the time. Embarassing

Lennox beat a fat war torn Tua, old Holyfield/Tyson, hypejob Grant, limited Ruddock and nutcase Golota. People say he is underrated but no, just look at the resume. Yeah he beat highly ranked guys but under questionable circumstances
