Lennox Lewis just retired and the lineal title was vacant. But the rising heavyweights at the time were the Klitschko brothers and possibly Chris Byrd.

Good Thread! 1929, when I started school grade 0 (Kindergarten), in a small, one room brick schoolhouse (grades 0-2 in the same room), the Heavyweight Title was vacant. Tunney had retired in 1928. Sharkey and Schmeling met for the title in 1930.

Vitali Klitscko, Chris Byrd, Lamon Brewster, and I guess John Ruiz?

September of 1996: I had just entered the 1st grade and Mike Tyson had just won the WBA belt by beating Bruce Seldon in the 1st round.

On @djanders first day in class, they taught how to draw on caves.

On mine we all wrote letters for the Pony Express to pick up for delivery.

Yep. And the teacher, who taught all 3 grades at once, by the way, in the same room, carried around a big ruler...which she occasionally used to great effect.

Ring, WBC, Lineal - Lennox Lewis
    WBA - Roy Jones Jr
    IBF - Chris Byrd
    WBO - Corrie Sanders

Definitely a very interesting time for the division.

If you have any experiences with live Boxers as you grew up through the eras, please write about them in a thread if you feel inclined. Well, if you are actually that age (which I'm honestly doubting, but we did have Burt Bienstock here before so I can't write it off).
