How would the Ol'Mongoose have done in today's boxing world ? I see him being a multi-weight titilist under this scenario. 175 lbs,of course, plus cruiser and maybe even heavyweight.
Could see him having a similar Arc as Toney but with more success. But then again maybe Archie doesn’t become Archie without having so many fights? No way anyone nowadays has that many fights. Depending on what Archie did he could have been fighting at SMW -MW the way these guys sweat down for the later part of his career. I think he would do fine at cruiser and maybe some one offs at HW.
He would not even remotely resemble the fighter that we call Archie Moore. How could he? Who is going to teach him the lessons he learned fighting Yarosz, Booker, Burley, Charles, Bivins, and the rest on that seemingly endless list of tough, smart rivals? You can't possibly learn what he knew in the gym, and if you think that you get that smart fighting 5 times a year against pick to lose opposition (because if you aren't 24-0, 24 kos all in the first 3 rounds, you've been "exposed") you are mistaken. And he would start at 140, maybe 135.
He'd have beaten all the light heavyweights with relative ease and would have some good fights at crusierweight. Briedis might beat him.
