Why do these youngsters all believe Cassius Clay was some kind of elusive, defensive wizard ?

Im just going off the type of comments people post on these H2H threads..

I get the sense these are millennials who have spent more time playing Clay on Fight Night then they have actually watching his fights..

Where does this idea that he was some type of unhittable, defensive wizard come from?

He took an enormous amount of punishment in his fights...and I will never question the mans chin or toughness, but he was certainly there to be hit...

Especially over the last 12 years (the majority of his career) it seems like anyone and everyone got a piece of that jaw.

He was able to stay on his feet with that type of style against guys 220 and below, but does anyone honestly believe he could fight like that and survive against the 240 pound plus heavies that have been dominating since the late 1990s??..

It just annoys me the dismissive attitude people have anytime someone is pitted against him in these fantasy matchups. Why even post the thread if it's so Ludacris to think that anyone could ever have success against Clay?

He had amazing reflexes in his prime ...has he got older ...some of his technical flaws become more apparent....but the fact remains that in a hypothetical match up against a post exile Ali ...you have to deal with his athleticism

Think people always refer to the best version of Ali...which to me and many others is pre banishment champion Ali. The guy that danced around Liston, Terrell, Williams etc. That version was elusive. The one you speak of was def a human punching bag with a hell of a chin. I’m not of the opinion that Ali was unbeatable but rather he would win the most h2h matchups prime for prime.

Well most people are thinking of Muhammad Ali in his prime, when he was difficult to hit clean, especially early in fights but throughout tbh. Terrell hardly put a meaningful glove on him, for example, and he is both tall and rangy.

Considering he fought Liston, Frazier, Foreman and Shavers, yes.

Ali could plant his feet and enter the matrix against quick handed 200lb heavyweights, so what chance do you think the fat ****s of today have of landing on him?

In the late 60's some like Fleisher, Frazier, Dan Daniels, etc. still called Muhammad, his legally changed name, Cassius Clay and partly that may have been racist, but today why with his life having past would someone like this poster still dishonor a great champion?

He went from an elusive Micheal Nunn type to a punching bag, famous for the rope a dope. He was the dope

Well you are making a straw man argument because nobody thinks Ali was "unhittable". But in his prime he was very difficult to hit consistently with more than 1 punch. Even when he was past his prime he could slip shots at the last second or sway/dance before the follow up shot landed. You cannot name a single HW who was harder to hit than Ali in the 60's.

Kind of like how you cannot call him by his preferred name. What's your story? Did Ali beat your favorite fighter? Did he pump and dump your mom and she's ticked off that she couldn't put him on child support? Did you ask for an autograph and he ignored you? Are you a troll, or are you just a disrespectful attention seeking ass hat? Let it all out.

How is it a 'dishonor' to call someone by their god given name?

You should make Matthew Franklin threads sometimes el gallo. I'd like to see if the people continually taking the bait will cry over that too. What a comedy.

On the chance that you really just do not know, & despite your name here are not a miserable troll, I will tell you.
When a man has deep enough beliefs, including about the status & victimization of the black man in 1960's America, changes his name to something with religious & spiritual connotations...It is an insult, ignorant, & fighting words to disrespect his wishes & call him by what he likely defined as his slave name.

Those who minimized or denied racial hate, bias & devastation, + those who wanted to mock & provoke, would taunt Ali by refusing to honor his real name.
You wanna be just like those unevolved, hateful, often KKK sympathizer Lost Souls?
