KO ratio 93%, knocked out Louis Azille (former WBC cruiserweight title challenger) Darrin Humphrey (former WBO NABO light heavyweight champ) Hector Alfredo Avila (reigning Argentine cruiserweight champ) Henry Saenz (former WBO Latino light heavyweight champ) Lee Swaby (former British cruiserweight title challenger) Zoltan Beres (1992 Olympic Bronze Medalist at light heavyweight) Good enough for a vacant title already imo
Luis Oscar Ricail from Argentina went the full 6 rounds in October 06 but he apparently got knocked down in the process since he lost 52-60 across the board: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=18975&cat=boxer I can't recall that particular fight atm... maybe ZDF did not show that one or just short snippets as usual? :think
Louis Azille- 19-5 when he fought Alexeev. Lost 4 of his last fight before fighting Alexeev. Never beat a half decent fighter. Best fight was a draw against Mayfield. Darrin Humphrey- 24-5 when he fought Alexeev. Never beat anyone and even lost to Ali Supreme in 2005. Hector Alfredo Aliva- 16-7-1 when he fought Alexeev.Never beat anyone. Was KO'd by a guy with a 14-21-2. Henry Saenz- 13-5-1 when he fought Alexeev. Only beat two fighters with more wins then loses(10-4-1 and 16-8-2). Lee Swaby- 22-16-2 when he fought Alexeev. Alexeev beat him in the middle of a 6 fight losing streak. Only decent win was a 3rd round KO of a 3-0 Enzo Mac in 2000. Zoltan Beres- 31-31-2 when he fought Alexeev. Only beat two fighters with more wins then loses(4-0 and 15-2-1). Your telling me this kid deserves a title shot after not beating ANY fighter in the top 30???atsch
:tong I agree with you, Cruiser is a top 5 division right now...it will take a hit when Haye has his next fight at HW, but guys like Banks and Alexeev will have it back on top a few short months later.
But he DESTROYED those bums! In all seriousness, Alexeev's cred lies in his incredible amateur background. He's had a Tszyu-esque amateur career, and like his fellow former-Soviet star, it will prepare him for the big fights early on in his career. IMO Alexeev needs 1-2 contenders TOPS to enter his prime (he's already 27). Sure, some great amateurs flame out in the pros, but Alexeev's heavy-hitting style is built for the pro game. Tszyu didn't need the standard 25 pro fights to enter his prime, and neither will Alexeev.
Banks is very good. He can stick and move well, can slug if he needs to, and has a solid amateur background. He fights in the standard Kronk mold ala Tommy Hearns or Leeonzer Barber...and he already proved his heart against a top 15 Cruiser when he KTFOed 20-1-1 Eliseo Castillo. Thing is he has been dropped before, and imo he is a little (not much though) behind Alexeev in terms of pure boxing skill. He better hope the fight is not made in Germany.
Thanks. I bet he will keep fighting on Wlad's undercards in Germany. Which is not a bad thing for him to get International experience especially since Germany has been hosting so many fights recently. I always see Banks in Wlad's entourage just wondered what he was like as a fighter.
Well, I guess you have the intention to belittle Alexeev and his achievements with your list. Here is my list: Azille: drawed with Mayfileld, went the full route with Braitwaithe, and beat Simms and Reese.Alexeev knocked him out in 2 rounds Humphrey:beat Galen Brown, and went 11 rounds with Diaconu.Alexeev slaughted him in 4 rounds. Griffis: went 10 rounds with Etienne,Tua,and Sykes. Alexeev beat him blue and black in 2 rounds. Avila: knocked down great Cuban talent Hernandez and went the full route with him as well as with Fragomeni who will soon fight Kraj in a world title eliminator. He also had a close fight with Wlodarczyk up to the point when he was knocked out by the Pole. Alexeev knocked him out in the very first round of their encounter.
He is a little behind Alexeev in terms of pure boxing skills?????? Banks better hopes that he never faces Alexeev in a box ring whether such a fight will be staged in the USA,Russia,or Germany. Banks doesnt play in Alexeev's league, axe!
After Banks' performance today I think it's safe to say Alexeev will win convincingly. I'm thinking stoppage mid-rounds after Banks beings to tire. :good
Odo--our opinions differ on Banks. IMO he is a skilled fighter who has KO power in both hands, and a solid inside and outside game. I agree with you that Alexeev would be a favourite wherever the fight would take place, especially after Banks' performance tonight. I by no means am belittling Alexeev, whom I consider a great prospect. I simply believe Banks is world championhsip material himself. Tonight, Banks showed good skills early but I think he was banking on the KO too much, and punched himself out a bit when he failed to get it. Still, I stand by my words: Banks is a very good boxer.
