Cheeseman vs Metcalf thread

Fitz is the most talented probably but wouldn’t rely on him to beat either Fowler or Cheeseman. His lack of discipline and (apparent) substance abuse are going to have some effect on him.

Cheeseman is in real danger of becoming the new Sam Egginton. No disrespect to Sam because he’s had a decent enough career but like Cheeseman he goes in the ring and gets battered from pillar to post, win or lose! It’s not a good look and again there’s certainly going to be some long term effects.

Fowler I think the opposite of what you said, he appears to be getting better. He’s got one of the best trainers in the game at the minute and if you could keep him fully focussed he’s the one you’d say can maybe push on to world level (if any).

 

It's an interesting domestic scene, some good fights to be made.

 

I always forget cheese is still only 25.

that’s a tough old division, even domestically.

I can definitely see him getting a crack at a world title in the next few years

 

Seemed really weak when he absolutley blitzed his opponent?

 

Great scrap between them saturday. Cautiously felt like Metcalf would take cheeseman before hand but still had reservations about his level of opponent until this point. James was very strong but very predictable and methodical about everything he did, there wasnt much in the way of feints or set ups or a coupe of light shots then a bigun etc, it was all just methodical pressure. Whereas cheeseman was a lot more fluid and had more variety. Still there were moments when i though metcalf might get to him late as he seemed to be building up momentum, but thought it was a great tactic of teds to push metcalf back and get right into his chest as metcalf couldnt get that momentum he needs going backwards.

Great division hopefully we can see them all fight each other, but think metcalf might struggle against the others (whilst being competitive) unless he adds a bit to his game

 

Since Fitz v Fowler Fowler has fought 5 times, Fitzgerald has fought once and that was pretty much 18 months ago, I think that will prove telling.

 

Loved this fight. British title fights so often deliver and this one was right up there. Just huge respect to both fighters, the heart on display was nothing short of inspirational.

Cheese needs to be looked after otherwise he will end up with health issues in later life.

 

Highlight of the card for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I really hope Cheeseman can make some decent money, invest and get out of the game reasonably fit and healthy. He's brilliant entertainment and clearly full of heart but his style means he will always be in a war.

Good post, fully agree with all of this.

I did agree with the Fitz Cheeseman decision. It was a close fight but the commentary were literally spunking because Cheeseman caught them off guard by going off the back foot.... watch it back on mute.

For me, both Fitzgerald and Fowler beat Cheeseman and Metcalfe (that said.... it remains to be seen how Fitz looks when he comes back).

I'd like to see Fitzgerald and Fowler go at it again but that said, I think Fitz needs 2 fights to blow the cobwebs off and prove his discipline before he jumps back in with Fowler who has now had 5 fights since the defeat.

In the meantime, the natural fight to make for me is Fowler v Cheeseman.

Cheeseman is never in a bad fight and he gives it all to the sport, just as Fowler does and whether you are a fan or not you have to respect that. I also think that fight has the recipe for fireworks.

Fowler has a few fights on the horizon but depends on how long he can continue to make 154 ? The Fitzgerald rematch is a natural fight, Cheeseman for the British, Sergio Garcia for the European and I guess if he were to lose any one of those, there is a Scouse Derby with Metcalfe.

Also not forgetting Keiron Conway either.

The 154 decision domestically at the moment is superb. Some real class fights to be made and I hope we get to see more of them.

 

I was really impressed with cheesemans. This lad has a good skillset. The willingness to go to war needs reigning in a tad but he's on top of the four kings atm imo.
I do love fitzy but cheeseman looked good against Metcalfe and we don't know how much, if at all, fitzy has deteriated over the past 18 month.
Steve Wood said that he's looking to get fitzy out soon so we will get a better idea of where he's at when it happens.

 

It's good to see him back as a neutral. It wasn't long ago he was ranked probably number 3 or 4 in the pecking order by people.

I agree that with his current form and wins, he's currently at the top of the bunch. He clearly has learnt a bit from his previous fights also, he's only 25 but with the way he fights you'd think he's realistically got another 2-3 good years then will start to decline.

Hopefully he can make the most of those years and earn some good money, live a relatively spartan life up until then and set himself up for when he calls it a day.

I'd like to see him get at least one decent paying title shot before his career is over.

 

Yeah I dislike Fowler however it's undeniable he's improved. I know he looks like he's had a tough paper round but he's only just turned 30 so should really be in his prime. His work ethic is admirable and, despite not liking him, I imagine he'll probably achieve the most out of the 3 by the time they retire.
