Cool watch. I used to accuse people of overrating Jerry but he was really quite talented, skilled and had tremendous fighting heart. It's obvious that his issues caught up to him. His dad was a real piece of work. His drinking and pain med abuse was renowned. It's hard to watch him later on in his career, especially that debacle in Colorado. But he supposedly wouldn't have done it any differently.

Great documentary, Jerry Quarry was a class act and a very good heavyweight in the ring. He was not afraid to fight the higher ranked fighters.

YES I'VE SEEN IT, AND IT IS VERY VERY GOOD. TELLS THE WHOLE QUARRY STORY THATS FOR SURE. TO ME ITS PRETTY MOVING, IT MAKES REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT LOOK LIKE THE DANCE SCENES OF THE MOVIE "GREASE" THIS IS A REAL LIFE HUMAN BEING, FAR TOO TOUGH FOR HIS OWN WELFARE!

    TO ME ITS PRETTY MOVING,
WW THATS JAMAICAN STAMFORD HARRIS WHO OUTWEIGHED JERRY 30 LBS, THEY FOUGHT 9/8/70. Quarry was ranked no.1 contender by Ring Magazine and no.3 WBA 37-4-4 (23 KNOCKOUTS) his next fight would be MUHAMMAD ALI.

Well, I guess I kind of assumed it was a big name when I first saw the clip. Jerry fought "Scrap Iron" three times, and Johnson and Harris looked rather similar physically.
Yes, a Johnson-Harris fight would have been good.

no doubt about it he beat 9 guys ranked in the World's top ten at the time, and knocked out 5, few Champions in any division do that or even fight that many, he won the Nationals at 181 lbs knocking out 5 for 5 a record shattering the jaws of two 230 pounders in the final bouts . he was they only heavyweight to fight ALI (TWICE) Frazier (twice) and never weighed 200 lbs in any of those fights, he knocked out 2 number #1 contenders and defeated 6 in the top 5 in the world. he only hit the deck 7 times, to where he was 3-2-1 with 3 knockout wins in those bouts. he was outweighed 44 of 66 pro bouts. Ranked in the top 5 for 9 years (1967-75) anywhere from #1 to #5 He was only stopped on cuts by hall of famers.

I've spoken to several people over the years who witnessed Chris and Kevin Finnegan sparring in Freddie Hill's gym above a pub in London's Warren St. These sessions were all our war with no quarter asked our given.
The boys would get showered then go downstairs and take a similarly competitive approach to making pints of Guinness disappear.

George is on record as saying, more than once, that he didn't fancy Quarry. His style was wrong. Short, compact counter puncher with real power.
Foreman didn't fear him but he felt it would be hard night's work and that he could look bad against Jerry.
