I`m starting this thread in response to somebody starting a thread asking if Marciano could have beat a prime Carnera, I think Marciano punched a lot harder than Primo and would have beaten him, and that Primo was the biggest fighter in history that Rocky could have beat, but some disagree, could Rocky have beat fighters bigger than Primo, could any fighters smaller than Primo have beaten Marciano?

You haven't stipulated that they have to be much good, so I guess as big as you want.

This is a pretty broad question Mark. I don't think any rational person believes Danny Williams or Mariusz Wach are going to box circles around Rocky and embarrass him with their superb boxing ability.

Manute Bol had a boxing match once, I think Rocky could beat him.

    LOL, yes. They could.

Marciano would likely beat the biggest boxers ever with ease. It wouldn't make him beating Tyson Fury though.

Briggs, for one. Briggs only avoided getting knocked silly by Foreman because of the latter's age and commensurately diminishing firepower. I think Rocky would have caught up to him in 12.

I shudder to think what he would have done to Gabe Brown at 360lbs.

If size alone was enough to beat him, then all they had to do was steer Potgieter to a title shot!

Ewart Potgieter, 7' 2" weighed 351 lbs. for his fight against Dave Roy in 1957. Had a 94" reach according to BoxRec.Lost 2 fights in a 14-bout career so he was beatable.

Another candidate is Gogea Mitu from Romania who had 2 pro fights in 1935, winning both of them only to die of tuberculosis eight months after his last fight. By one account -- http://www.worldrecordacademy.org/human/tallest-professional-boxer-gogea-mitu-219208 -- he was 7' 9" tall. He weighed 330 3/4 lbs for his last fight. BoxRec has him at just 7'4" though. Since he was undefeated, Marciano may have been unable to beat him however.

Would have been an interesting fight...wonder why Potgieter gave up after losing to the often underrated Holman
