Styles become different in higher weight classes so if jones was a natural lightweight then Mayweather would win whereas if Mayweather was somehow a natural super middleweight then Jones would win
A prime Roy would of beaten Floyd's ass if they were the same size, horrible stylistic match up for Floyd. p4p Jones is faster and more powerful than Mayweather is, I don't see what Floyd could do to trouble a 25 year old Jones Jr.
I mean, realistically how does Floyd win this fight? I'd give a 5'11 Pacquiao a much better chance of beating Roy than Floyd.
"The young Roy Jones, Jr. would probably beat Floyd Mayweather, Jr., because basically Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and James Toney fight with the same style. My style is a little different than their style," Jones said on dBoxing Source Radio show. "But when you come back and start talking about Manny Pacquiao, he's a whole different animal. He's a southpaw who throws bombs," Jones said, and continued, "You got to survive his power first, then you deal with him. That's still yet to be seen. Of course with my size I'll beat him, but if I was in his weight class, that would be a good fight to see." [1]
People like to make the James Toney comparison with Floyd but that should be null when considering a prime Floyd was significantly faster than James Toney. Idk about this one on hand you have prime Jones who relied heavily on his athleticism sometimes ignoring the basic mechanics while prime Floyd had nearly the same athleticism while still being disciplined defensively. Watch the first Montell Griffin fight and you’ll see what Roy Jones does when he gets frustrated and things aren’t going his way. Floyd would definitely be able to counter Roy.
At Super Featherweight Mayweather was a little savage, people forget Mayweather was stopping opponents regularly/often. It's only when he went up weights and suffered hand problems the stoppages dried up. So it all depends on what version of Mayweather and Jones Jr you pick, if you say primes, then when were their primes?
I think people forget that. He didn’t win a paper title at 21 years old. Genaro was THE MAN at SFW for 7 years and had only lost 1 time when moving up to LW to fight Oscar. And I guess people forget Diego Corrales(Who was #5 P4P) and Jesus Chavez fights too. He definitely had that killer instinct in his prime before he started to move up damage his hands.
