Mike Tyson of course is the most overrated on the planet ! Boxing 24 has made Gerry Cooney & Joe Bugner immortals, however neither fighter ever beat anyone in the top ten!
meh Tyson is nowhere as overrated as he used to be. Their are fighters here far more overrated than him here, such as Marciano, and Carnera.
MARCIANO'S HEART CAN NEVER BE OVERRATED , AND I WAS ONE OF HIS DETRACTORS, NOT ANYMORE he's not gonna quit on his stool to some fat guy who is not ranked in the top 2,000!! how many times did Tyson get up and continue a fite?? 49-0 43 knockouts in the top prestigous award in the world is pretty good.
Of his 300 fights, most were against marginal competition in and around Pittsburgh. Not to say his wins over Tunney, Miske, Brennen, Gibbons weren't impressive, but most of these were newspaper decisions in his hometown. Without any actual footage of his fights it is difficult to quantify just how good or exciting his fights were. From many news accounts of the day, he got a lot of boos from the crowd for his dirty tactics and excessive clinching. For all the talk of how he was robbed versus Tunney in their first rematch, he also got a gift against Tiger Flowers in a very controversial decision.
He also beat good fighters in their home towns. If you look at 1919 he had 45 fights winning 44. Some in New York and Philadelphia in fact his only loss that year was to Tommy Gibbons ironically in Pittsburgh. I don’t think overall you can really argue with Greb’s resume it possibly the best ever.
When I started posting on this forum in my late 20s, many people assumed that I was an old man with a long white beard. If anything age has slightly tamed my runaway enthusiasm for the old timers. So who did I over justify? Jim Corbett for one. Barbados Joe Walcott, although I still rate him very highly. For a recent example, I thought that Denis Boytsov might be the next big thing once.
- Tommy Loughran - Gene Tunney - Tiger Flowers - Mickey Walker - Maxie Rosenbloom - Kid Norfolk - Tommy Gibbons - Mike McTigue - Jack Dillon - Gunboat Smith - Battling Levinsky These are just some of the all-time great fighters which Greb has fought and beaten. I think you're severely underrating Greb.
I completely went overboard about Donald Curry after his destruction Milt Mccory. When Camacho Sr was on the rise, I thought maybe better than Ray Robinson.
