This is a good question. With what I have read on here over the years and seeing how people tend to rewrite history and pick and choose the bits they like and dislike I think it could well be written as something like... Wilder KOd Fury and retired Fury who was the linear champ Fury knew he would be KOd in the rematch so ran from boxing As Joshua has a loss, Wilder is the HW champ As some others have mentioned, I guess Wilder would possibly have fought Kownacki which would have been billed as a big fight against a young undefeated puncher. If Wilder had have won it would have been called his biggest win and I think many would say it is a bigger win than any that Fury or Joshua have had Of course only speculation and not proven in any way
Even though Fury-Wilder 1 was probably a cherry pick gone wrong (Wilder had no idea how much gas Fury had left in the tank) I give Wilder a ton of credit for taking the fight, against his toughest opponent. I give him even more credit for taking the rematch. Many guys run like cowards from rematches (Teo Lopez) and go on to fight bums exclusively (Tank Davis). Wilder could have gone back to his bum train and kept it going with overmatched no hopers. Many of his half-witted fans would have jumped back on the bandwagon after he KOd a few bums like Tank Davis’ mostly mentally impaired fanbase does when he KOs a bum. Wilder gave Fury the rematch (as he should have) and the boxing world is better because of it. He gets a lot of crap from fans but I’d like to see him get some credit when so many other big names don’t have the courage to do what he did. In hindsight, it was probably a bad financial move but was good for the sport.
Yeah, cherry pick and props that he still looked willing to fight. Wilder really looked willing to fight and no offense if he had lost. Lopez likes me a lot but yeah, most highest interest might be fight vs Loma II not cambosssos suposed beatup.
