I am a 16 year old boy from europe. Boxing is not populair in my country, In contrast to kickboxing and mma. You may know overeem or bas rutten. But i love boxing i wanted to boxing for a long time i finally decided to follow my dream last year but because of the covid all gyms closed. I have the dream to become a pro go to usa and maybe become a world champ. But no one in my country has ever been a world champ or made it to the usa. I would give everything for it despite uythe gyms are closed i train everyday at home. Doing power training, heavy bag, shadow boxing, jumping ropes and running. But the odds are against me. Do you guys think i ever can be a world champ or contender and do you guys have advice for me

you can make it happen, youngster. you just got to want it bad enough. bad enough to put in the hours and sacrifice. the world will align itself in time, with your goals, but it all starts with your focus in making it happen.

You can do whatever you set your mind to, but you really have to WANT it, in capital letters. And not just now, but in 5-7 years, also, after you have had your butt handed to you a few times. You have to MAKE it happen, and make it happen against all obstacles, including ones you will come up against that you may not even be considering right now. If you have the build for it, try to become a Boxer - Puncher Hybrid. Those guys seem to do well against most other types of fighters, and when they do suffer a loss, can come back at the same guy who beat them with a different style...and win.

I suggest you better dont try it and I wouldn't listen to all those guys on this forum. The very vast majority are a bunch of fatsos in their 40s trying to compensate their lack of manliness by sitting infront of a keyboard and writing BS cause they know nothing about this sport, most of them dont even have the balls to step into a boxing gym.

i will give you my take on this sport and trying to become a pro: The worst thing about trying to become a professional boxer is the situation you might end up if you fail. If you try to become a soccer player and it doesn’t work out for you you might have A couple of injuries and maybe lost a lot of time where you could have gone to University or whatever, but thats it more or less. talking about boxing is a completely different story, if you will have 100 amateur fights and start a pro career with a couple of dozen fights and you failed to make it big you will end up in one of the worst places you could be: Your brain is an absolute mess you will be stupid and will have a serious problem with very simple thought processes and decision making, Your face will look awful and almost everybody is going to immediately see that you are a boxer, It won’t make it easier to find a future wife when you look like a fighter, Then take the injuries you might get from a soccer career and multiply them by five and you’re maybe not even close to what boxing does to your body: Shoulder problems, back problems, knee problems almost every professional boxer has some kind of injury and it is more or less normal for them to fight in the ring with minor injuries.

last but not least I assume that you were probably not a very poor person living in the Netherlands.Almost all boxers and I seriously mean almost all come from a rather poor background and grew up in absolute poverty, usually boxing is for them the only way to make it to the top. Fury was taken from school when he was a 12 years old to work with his family on motorways, canelo sold popstickles as a child to help out his family, a lot of those black fighters come from absolut crack head familys.

What country are you living in.? I'm assuming Holland.
A lot of Euro country's have amateur boxing and I know a girl who has duel citizenship with germany and Holland, she lives near the border and is trying to get in German national team but is at a club in Holland, I know there isn't much call for boxing in Holland as the girl i know has told me that but there is amateur boxing clubs in Holland.

COVID has put the brakes on a lot of things, including pursuit of boxing dreams, but this too shall pass.

I encourage you to keep it up and be ready to hit the gym when that time comes. Vaccinations could make COVID subside as a major threat by later this year. So why stop now?

I like something Roy Jones Jr used to say: God puts obstacles in our way to make sure we really want what we say we want. If we quit at the first obstacle, we must not have really wanted it enough.

Worst-case scenario until the gyms open up is you’ve found a good workout to stay in shape.

I'm a lover of all combat sports and martial arts, so I've studied Dutch kickboxing a good deal. What I will say about that is that I know that they many of the top fighters have good hands and boxing skills. I would suggest going to a kickboxing gym and I would wager that many of them have boxing classes as well. Doing kickboxing will help your boxing skills, just look at the Klitschkos, you'll be able to stay and shape, and you will probably learn something new.

Contact Shannon Courtenay on Twitter and get her to have a word with Eh Day.

You will be a PPV star once he finds your selling point.

    Never give up.

Read Edwin Hasilets book on boxing, Helped me a ton.
I have not been boxing long at all, But I can tell you that you need a coach- some people you fight have been in a gym since they were 8-12 with coaches correcting them the whole time you have a lot of catching up tp do and the last thing you would want is to ingrain so many bad habits that you work against conventional advice .But just remember a boxer with practically no use of his right hand won a European title if you look into it there are probably many high level boxers working around a defect or two for example asthma in Ruddocks and Briggs case or Joe Fraizers crooked left arm.

Not all. A lot of european boxers are from such kind of backgrounds: boxing family and not rare cases they does have brothers boxers.

Also there is needed some financial support.
Beginner pro boxer not rare cases spends more than he get in fights purses. If you do not have investor and are willing to climb up, this means also paid sparring and if someone big will take you in his pre fight camp, they are different. Some beat out everything, form some you might learn a lot.
