He takes a lot of stick for having a glass jaw but he took some bombs in this fight without going down, then brought it back to maidana
That would have been a shame then because outside like 2 rounds Khan got his ass beaten badly vs Maidana
Golovkin rode out an on-point liver shot by Derevyanchenko: This content is protected But even Gennadiy had to give ground after that vicious shot.
This content is protected Margarito detonated 2 brutal body shots in succession. Pac was badly hurt and literally ran for survival. I think he suffered a fracture rib from these shots.
First time you really saw Golovkin hurt, hurt. It's amazing how stone chin guys and durable guys cringe when they get hit to the body. An older example is Shane Mosley getting caught to the body by Vernon Forrest, he visibly winced and shut his eyes
Yeah because you can't really toughen the liver. There's a reason Golovkin keeps an elbow tucked in over that spot - he uses the liver shot himself and knows how devastating it can be.
Bump. Anyone remember Nate Campbell vs Robbie Peden 1? Campbell hit Peden in the liver that hurt him badly and looked like he could have been stopped. Crazy to think that Peden was able to score a KO after getting hit in the body like that, but it also helped that the opponent was too cocky for his own good. This content is protected
Well, the liver has been an organ as long as humans have been walking upright, and there weren't a lot of liver shot KOs in boxing until recent decades. (Oscar being the big one that seemed to start it all, and he had a protector on that went up nearly to his armpits, and people berated the hell out of him for quitting.) With the "liver" shot KOs, guys tend to pop right back up when the count is concluded. Most could rise, those that don't just don't have the will to get up, because they know they're going to get hit there right away again. Because we've all seen guys fight through them. Some have already been mentioned, but I remember Iran Barkley just recoiling in pain from several of Hearn's left hooks to the body in the third round of their fight and bending and digging his elbows in trying to fight through it ... and Iran still managed to stop Hearns in the same round. Historically, body shots that ended a fight tended to break a rib or three. I saw some posters bring up fights like Cooney-Lyle and Jones-Hill after the Garcia loss, and those were both fights were ribs were broken. In fact, when Lenier Pero broke three of his last opponent's ribs with a body shot, people on here that night were running Vykhriyst down for quitting. Garcia pops right up, and his fans yell, "you don't know what it's like unless you feel it." Yep. Liver punches hurt. Nobody says they don't. So do broken noses. So do broken jaws. So do broken ribs. But people aren't totally healed 10 seconds later when they break something. If you feel good enough to fight on 10 seconds later, get your butt and gloves off the floor by eight. By the time they wave the fighter in to continue, you'll be okay. Boxing hurts.
One of the best Jim Lampley quotes, “and he may not get up……Now he’s gonna get up”, lol. Also, at the 3:08 mark, what kind of event did the lady in the back just left of center think she was attending?
3 body shooters who graze low: who still leave their opponent to deal with the pain undoubtedly: Andre Ward, Andrew golota, Errol Spence. Their bodywork is either flagrant or borderline low. Tito and Miguel had a hard body punch too. For Tito it was against Mayorga. For Cotto, many of many a times he put in work. BUT both guys had the propensity to smash low, Tito to Vargas and Miguel to zab. Vargas was winning, Felix bought himself some time. Cotto has no excuse. Zab was a real dude and a gentleman for not retaliating back- he definitely deserved a rematch in Puerto Rico. It's a shame that the opponent's have to ride it out even when it leaves them drained.
