Although in recent years it's not been great overall the Heavyweight division is most exciting division in boxing history.
Robert Quiroga vs Akeem Anifowoshe is one of the greatest boxing matches of all time although rarely talked about due to being lighter fighters and not showcased on a big network. I believe it's right up there with Gatti/Ward and Chacon/Limon 4, also Saad Muhammad/Lopez 2 is right up there too.
Realistically most heavyweights from the 80's to present have most likely juiced, people like to point finger at guys like Holyfield but I highly doubt guys like Tyson, The Klitschko brothers, Joshua, Wilder etc are strangers to it too, there's no point condemning them for it though as it goes undetected in most sports I believe.
Boxers from the 1960's to present are much better than previous eras. Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Henry Armstrong and Willie Pep are the real stand outs pre 60's compared to the rest.
Actually I did say yesterday I think Marciano could of beaten Mike Weaver so actually it's possible he could of won an alphabet belt but overall I think from the mid 60's to present he would be more of a journeyman in boxing especially if he was in the heavyweight division. I don't mean that to be an insult I just think his size and physical stats would really play against him and when he comes into eras with people with just as much or more power.
Roberto Duran - Ray Leonard 2 was more or less even when 'no mas' happened, Ray Leonard wasn't putting on some clinic like many would believe.
Evander Holyfield's PED stack in the late 80s and 90s may have been more than the total amount of PEDs used by every other top ten heavyweight during that time. Who else gained 15 pounds of muscle, rapidly lost their hair, and developed a heart condition?
Billy Joe Saunders is one of the most talented British fighters ever and could’ve been one of the best if he lived the life, he will only go down as such if he beats Canelo, which I think he would’ve done 3 years ago
Muhammad Ali took a dive in the first Leon Spinks fight. Spinks was really the only guy left he had a prayer of defeating in a rematch. The motivation ofcourse to be the first man to win the title 3 times. Coming in so out of condition lends a convenient excuse. Perhaps it was a subconscious type of thing. He couldn't motivate himself to take the fight serious probably because Spinks shouldn't have been fighting for the title yet. Ali shouldn't have been fighting either. The whole thing was a **** sandwich and boxing fans had to take a bite. Ali at that time had so much good credit and he used it all. Dive may be the wrong way to phrase it. He definitely didn't come to win, he certainly cheapened the championship of the world by artificially letting Leon Spinks lay claim to it.
