Canelo needs another 20 fights or so to be able to be in the conversation of SMW top fighters. Don’t get me wrong, Canelo is good but haven’t had a meaningful fight at that weight yet.
What this man said. Jnr was a twitch fibre freak at his peak, but I put a bit of his success down to being juiced to ****ery. Joe was clean as a whistle, his dad refused to talk to maccarinelli ever again when he pissed positive, no way he lets joe juice. Wicked father son team right there
It's gonna be hard overtaking Calzaghe at 168 when there's nobody of note to fight there. That's even IF Canelo would fight without stacked wraps, rehydration clauses, catchweights etc etc.
The dude stated that Ward ranks higher at SMW than Calzaghe. Show me a ranking list where that happened.
They used a supercomputer a couple of years ago to simulate a fight between Calzaghe and Ward, turns out Joe won in the first round without Ward even laying a glove on him! I believe the bell rang and then Joe shot Andre in the face and that was the end of the contest and Calzaghe's hand was (virtually) raised. I know that guns aren't usually used in boxing but apparently the computer had decided that if the rules on low blows and cheating didn't apply to Ward they wouldn't apply to Joe either and the result was a 1st round 'TKO'.
Canelo needs to beat BJS and Saunders to unify and become undisputed. Then needs to take on Benavidez and whoever else is the mandatory challenger. He needs to have a SOLID 3 or 4 years at 168lbs and go undefeated.
Yes.. & the cleanest.. RJJ is the most talented fighter to ever fight there but he was obviously on the gear & didn't stay long enough. Ward had to cheat to beat Joes opposition. He was also quite obviously a doper too. Those two things alone disqualify him over Joe. Sport is also about longevity and endurance & JC was still successfully going in his late 30s despite numerous hand injuries.. whereas Ward retired relatively young as his body was breaking down. Probably due to years of constant doping cycles & head trauma. Ward had to prison rules opponents Calzaghe beat at an age Ward had long been retired at b/c his body couldn't handle the sport anymore. Self explanatory. Calzaghe>Ward. In a sport full of divas & rampant steroid abuse I believe Calzaghe was a rare exception. Here's how Ward beat two of there common opponents: This content is protected
Roid Jones Jr. would have destroyed Clenelo. Andre Ward beat Clen in a competitive fight. Calzaghe also beat him in a competitive fight. Clen is very skilled, but at 5'7.5" he's not beating the greats at 168.
Wouldn't his Height make for a stronger call for Canelo to be GOAT SMW? The guy should be at 154-160, but he's able to unify and go undisputed in a division that isn't his natural!! That's gotta count for something!! I get what your saying about H2H fights with the Legends. But I'm not even that convinced That RJJ, JC, and AW convincingly beat Canelo out and out. RJJ in his prime might be able to dismantle him. But I donno that Ward or Calzaghe beat him clearly, would be good fights! If he stays @ 168 for a few years and fights the best there, and if a few guys move up to challenge him. He could be SMW GOAT IMO!
Andre Ward dominating the Super Six 168lb champions surpasses anything Calzaghe did at 168lbs. It was a tournament of the best at 168lbs and Ward best everyone, clean as day. Furthermore.... Andre Ward mopping up THE man, Sergey Kovalev, at 175lbs also surpasses anything Calzaghe did at 175lbs. Now, tell me how Calzaghe ranks higher than Ward at either weight class. Head to head, Ward would have beaten Calzaghe.
