Because purse depends from name, event and tickets sales etc factors.
When champ was noname and not ammy superstar boxer get concussion, damaged ribs and hand for small purse.
Because guy who later was world champion, then was noname.

Fights with current Usyk too are better paid than for example fights with Usyk in his real prime had been paid lesser than with current Usyk version, expect WBSS1 final fight and Bellew fight.
All before this did not had 1m purses or more than this and had real prime Usyk in the ring. More mobile, more agile and with higher output.

To get placed in the ring vs old Briedis and told: u will get 650k if you will beat him and boxer get processed in 3 rounds out or > 1m for to step up alone is different.
While vs prime Briedis boxers fought for considerably lesser money.
Durodola had been beated methodically and slowly by prime Briedis 9 rounds for cheaper purse than Glowacki get for 3 rounds long beatup.
    Name does matter.
Ofc there also is factor that then Durodola had coming out from impressive KO stoppage win vs very hard hitting boxer and did not had been considered as underdog. He most likely had assumed that he will won this one.

Very good points. Ex soldiers who have been in situations that make what Del and the two time drugs cheat go through look like a picnic still have to work 9-5 jobs after they leave the army and that's after earning a mere fraction of what domestic level shite like Del & the two time drugs cheat have managed to scam off the mugs.

But apparently D&D are entitled to their gold mansions and rocket cars because boxing is tough.

Del Boy gets good fights on good cards.:)

A lot of boxers fights with boxers who hit considerably harder than Usyk for considerably lesser:( purses because boxers are not well known names, not big events or like this.

Hrgovic I think hits far harder than Usyk but you most likely will get for fight with him lesser than vs Briedis not alone vs Usyk and Briedis hits harder than Usyk. Usyk more well known name = more $.
Now beltless Dorticos for sure too hits harder than Usyk.

Why on earth is Nigel Benn Jr running around in interviews and on social media, adamant in making himself out to be some homeless man who's come in straight off the streets without two pennies to rub together, and landed himself in a boxing gym which he sleeps in, as he can't afford to get his own place.

Why doesn't he drop this facade? Its weird.

Every interview he does is about him sacrificing something in order to win this fight. What hardship has he had to face in life?

"Poor cameras"? We're talking about Sky Sports, the leading sports television brand in the UK. They're not some fledgling outfit. Are we to understand that they can only afford to shoot fights to modern technical standards by elevating Dereck Chisora to PPV headliner status? Otherwise, the budget would only stretch to a lone hobbyist photographer wielding a Bolex L-8 from the nosebleeds?

At the televised level, 'production values' are as much a matter of taste and discernment as money. DAZN has been heavily and repeatedly criticized for the presentation of its boxing telecasts—DAZN is also bankrolled by Leonard Blavatnik and backed by Goldman Sachs. DAZN isn't short of resources, it's short of people who know how to present boxing, and the people it does have are trying too hard to appeal to zoomers. A glance at the sartorial choices of its punditry panel serves as an analogy—money can't buy dress sense—which would sum its larger problem up.

What the fellows here are complaining about, and what you are failing to grasp, is that Hearn has created a false economy. He has arbitrarily decided that toilers such as Whyte and Chisora should be headlining PPV, because he's spied something in it for him. Rather than building a healthy bread and butter TV scene, he has used his marketing wiles and (this is a crucial detail) the monopoly he has been granted over Sky's boxing programming to cultivate a casual hivemind he can readily exploit. Meanwhile, once guys like Del and Dillian have had a taste of PPV pie, they never want to go back. "Fair play to Eddie," you would likely say, "good for him." "Fair play to Del and Dillian," I hear you whoop, "I'd do the same in their shoes!" Only one hitch. Why should anyone here care about what's good for Eddie Hearn? Why should anyone here require Dereck Chisora or Dillian Whyte to be overvalued, for that matter? Ardent boxing fans, like the ones in this thread, want an end to that monopoly and to the dreary status quo it has engendered. They want Sky's boxing arm to open up to multiple promoters, because competition drives quality. And that's what you're seeing expressed in this thread. Boxing fans have a choice to either be a captive audience or to rebel, by stealing Hearn's product (or boycotting it altogether) while voicing their displeasure on public platforms like this one and hoping that people gradually get wise and stop paying for substandard fare in significant enough numbers to make a difference (or that Sky do the right thing of their own accord and end the exclusivity Hearn enjoys).

Hearn has throttled the week in, week out televised fight game in this country. It's a mess, and muh 90,000 at Wembley doesn't paper over it.

    Careful, boys. If you don't tone down your unreasonable expectations in the near future and help save the shrinking coffers of Sky and Matchroom, Saturday Fight Night could soon look like this;

Benn has improved massively but he's still just as annoying, he walks around like he's hard done by with this hard man act. He lost to Peynaud and he laughed at Robin Deakin for having a club foot. I'm hoping he gets beat tonight.

I see he is now sponsored by Beats and just like AJ, he was wearing them at the weigh in.

Some right nonsense being talked in this thread.

The reason that legitimate top ten contender v contender matchups are relatively rare in this sport is largely BECAUSE of PPV. It's the cause of the situation, not the cure.

With the proliferation of sanctioning bodies nowadays and the number of belts available, there are some weak champions out there. Young prospects, amateur stars or even average fighters who happen to have a famous surname are being signed up on the premise that they will be developed into PPV stars. It's being sold to them as the goal, the passport to big money, before they've even laced up a glove as a pro.

With the number of belts and weak champions, these fighters can be steered in a calculating manner through a series of learning fights, none of which even remotely resemble a 50/50. Until eventually, they get into a position for a shot at a weak champ who they can beat or given a vacant title shot against a patsy (the sanctioning bodies are wise to it and know how much money they stand to make out of some of these guys). Then suddenly they're being marketed as a world champion and their fights are being put on pay per view, which was the goal from the start.

Joshua is the classic case and point. To be fair, he did at least take on one other young up and comer in Whyte, but Charles Martin was a dreadful champion. Joshua did at least step up to develop the best resume in the division, but not before we'd been 'treated' to PPV 'extravaganzas' against the likes of Martin, Breazeale, Molina and Takam and only once he was being offered eight figure paydays for each outing. As per the thread title, Hearn is already trying to do it with Benn jnr, though whether he can be manouevred to a paper belt in such a traditionally talent deep division I doubt.

Where is the incentive for fighters to take on other ranked contenders in close to 50/50 matchups when they can have their career 'managed' like that? It's also the reason why top fighters these days get into the ring twice a year at most. You look at Conor's dad, who was one of my all time faves. Second year as a pro and he's fighting guys like Tim Williams, Anthony Logan, David Noel, decent fighters. Loses to Watson and comes back five months later and then again two months after that. Shocks DeWitt, Barkley, loses to Eubank and comes back again all in the space of a year.

Benn's career really missed the PPV era, but he earned 7 figure paydays and he's carved out a good career for himself outside of the ring. He's comfortably off and very happy. Because he took on all comers and earned his stripes. And boxing is much more popular in the mainstream in the UK than it was then. In those days, I was a pretty unique specimen at school/college in being a massive boxing fan. Nowadays, virtually every bloke I speak to is familiar with the likes of Joshua, Fury and even the likes of Josh Kelly and Benn/Eubank jr and able to hold a sensible conversation about them.

Nobody is telling me that world/fringe world level fighters can't earn a good living without every half decent bout being on PPV. If the likes of Whyte were earning £100-250k a fight, with the prize of seven figure paydays on offer if they beat the champion then there would be the same hunger to take on 50/50 matchups, fight 4/5 times a year and go and prove themselves the best against the Joshuas, Furys and Wilders of this world. Instead, you've got people like Whyte, Chisora, Povetkin and now Parker on a round-robin gravy train and Whyte turning down a shot at Joshua (chance for revenge over and old amateur rival and world title opportunity) because he would 'only' be paid the paltry sum of £4m (more than a lot of the UK would earn for a lifetime's work). The PPV gravy train has created a generation of fighters who aren't bothered about glory or their place in history and only care about the huge PPV paydays.

Nobody is telling me that if paydays for contender level fighters were more realistic, that would stop people getting into boxing. Most kids who get into boxing do it because they have friends or family members who fight, because they are the hardest kid in school or because their parents send them to the gym to keep them out of trouble. Not because they think they are going to become a PPV star. Young fighters dream of glory, of honour, of being world champions. It's those that become good at it (or sometimes just those who prefer it to a 9-5) that go on to the pro game. But somewhere along the line, because of the PPV monster and the influence of people like Hearn, the focus on their place in history is diluted and the endgame becomes PPV loot, pure and simple.

The same problem exists in football. You look at the almost million pound a week paydays being offered to top players now and how are they funded? By more and more sponsorship and broadcasting revenue. A few years ago, your sky subscription would get the premier league, la liga, champions league, all the top football. Nowdays, they've lost la liga, lost the CL, lost half the premier league games, yet the cost of your subscription doesn't go down. It's the sporting equivalent of shrinkflation, but it's not going to stop whilst people keep feeding the monster.

Surely he's not said this. Wheres the link to him saying that? Conor Benn just doesn't look world level at all. And is in a tough division. So this comment is bound to be ridiculed in the future.

All you,ll do with your boycott is put boxing back to where it was. Which you all complained about. Sky sports do not fund boxing very well...because their market doesnt really want it. How hard is that to understand.

Take eddie hearn out of the equation. Lets say he retires. Frank and mick take over. Theres still not enough money in it to get everyone working. Find out what the budget skysports has for boxing. Then tell me they can get everyone out....promoters working there socks off etc.

All that will happen is the quality will go down. People will have less reason to have a career in boxing. Why would you. The lower guys will struggle more.

Its not like it was flying before hearn. And thats when the funding was there.

I dont really care tbh....but eddies pretty much delivered what you,ve always wanted.

    Top guys fighting top guys.
    Contenders fighting contenders.
    Lower guys fighting lower guys
    Almost unlimited access to fighters
    Big marketing budgets
    Big production.
    Big named ex pro commentators
    Guys at all levels busy
No more guys fighting bum after bum every fight.

But the reality is no matter whats delivered...people complain. Its always the same...we,ve got joshua on tonight. We want josh taylor. Right we,ve got josh taylor on tomorrow. We dont want him now....we want callum johnson. And on and on it goes.

Commentators...we,ve got carl froch. We dont want froch we want barry jones. Good cause we,ve got him too. No. We dont want him. Get us frank bruno.

Fair point with froch tbh...i complain about him as well.

The problem is it costs 20 quid.

But take that 20 quid away....you wont get it. No one is interested in doing it.

You cant make them do it.

    Why dont you do it?

Cause its easier going on a forum moaning about other people while we do nothing.

Calling chisora and whyte useless. Or eddie hearns rubbish. Kugans rubbish. Everyones rubbish. Ever thought the problems actually with the people. Cant be pleased. He,d give you it for free and you,d still be moaning.

Hearns done a great job for british boxing....he got rich doing it. But its open to anyone. Same with chisora and whyte. If you want it delivered it,ll cost you money. If not...no one wants to do it. Why not? Cause its a hard life that few people make money doing. Thats the reality.

Thats how boxing was and how many of them left boxing skint. Nearly all of them. This is pretty much the first generation thats leaving the ring and being pretty well off.

You said you we,re a gym goer back in the day...why didnt you go into boxing? Big boxing fan by the sound of it...surprised you never carved out a world class career? Sounds pretty easy work when i listen to people on here.

We're going to see the effect the current PPV culture has on boxing in the coming years - Further fragmentation and devaluing of already devalued titles, fewer and fewer fights being made that the fans want, increased inactivity of already inactive fighters afterall why fight 3 times a year when you can earn millions main eventing a single PPV ??
Also the increasing number of freakshow type events involving non athlete celebs and retired ATG's will worsen the situation - young fighters are going to see the fortunes being made by old men and youtubers on PPV and demand that they as full time boxers deserve the same, once your name is established in the slightest the sense of entitlement will grow. Legacy ?? Place in history ?? Those words will rarely if ever be used in the near future, yes boxing has always been a business but fighters also had a sense of pride and respect for the sport of boxing and it's history, if the current PPV model continues greed will be the one and only motivation.

Those like Benn etc... who were genuinely world class and took on all comers and were sensible with their money are well off and don't have to work again. Those who weren't so good have to carry on working after boxing, whether that be staying in the game as a trainer, pundit, whatever or starting a new career. It's no big deal, given that your average fighter probably retires in their mid 30s, there aren't many people in any walk of life who can afford to never work again at that age.

I'm a general keep fit type gym goer and a big fan of boxing as an observer, but I never fancied doing it because I'm not hard enough (I can look after myself if need be, but not to anywhere near the level required to be a professional fighter) and I can make a good living out of talents in other areas.

EDIT: Having read Benn's autobiography, I suppose accusing him of being sensible with his money probably isn't completely accurate! But still, you never seem to hear of him having financial worries (unlike Eubank who's been made bankrupt despite earning over £10m in his career) and he seems happy and content with life so must have put some of it away.
