Same people tend to criticise boxers who protect their '0' and bang on about ducking....

They are very unforgiving and even are digging who had defeated this boxer in amateurs.
It is big difference with other combat sports. Pro boxing fans are different than KB, MMA, MT. They might quickly mark you as glass chinned if you had been dropped for a count by future world champion or as a bum cos lost fight on points and rethink about fighter only after appeared that boxer who had beated him on cards turned into UNDISPUTED.

Punch resistance too might not be checked for long time in pros and might had been tested even in amateur ranks if the boxer gets hard hitting opponent who will land on him enough properly. In KB also kicks resistance is tested.

Boxer might be with good defense and have too slow for him opponents and go x pro fights with chin untested.

Yep you're right. It happened to Dubois when he lost to Joyce. He'll learn a lot from the fight but all people did was criticise his lack of heart and how much of a hypejob he is.

Nope. Many boxers who fraud the fans, fighting old men, past it fighters for 95% of their career for millions do not deserve respect. Yeah they put their life on their line somewhat but so do the countless other roles/careers and they don't get undeservingly paid thousands/millions whilst conning/frauding the public

If boxing was more like tennis where top players play each other regularly it wouldn't matter.
Boxing needs to stop these pointless fights. So what if AJ loses to Fury he can then fight Wilder etc.

yeah and a lot ppl in forums worship surnames and over the hill boxers beatup.

The difference is that a lot of boxers fought their most difficult fights for cheap if compare with boxers fights vs uncles, mismatched opponents, opponents moving up in weight, over the hill, shot fighters, catchweight, clauses, bums.

A lot of fans doesn't care about fight background. It is easy to sell shot fighter beat up if fighter earlier was not bad.
Bums, all these nice looking fast KOs.
Fans love KOs and why bother? Gave tickets sellers to fight with short notice bums, later in larger shows old fighters, shot fighters with not that bad looking fights records. Everyone is happy: fans see KOs, boxer is not tired too much.

i think this is just one extreme in the graph. the other is the blind hero worship for boxers. i tend to fall in between. i reserve my respect and admiration for those i feel are deserving, cause of skill or character. and i criticize those i feel are deserving when its appropriate.

It depends how they lose. Wilder and Lomachenko disgraced themselves with their post fight behavior. Dubois disgraced himself with his pre-fight behavior. Ruiz disgraced himself coming to the ring like that.

For others, you are correct. It is all right to lose, as long as they acted honorably, but in their training and made a reasonable effort.

Nobody makes a big deal about the ‘0’ in MMA. Fighters just get in there and fight, the fans just ‘get it’ that fighters will lose when the best are continually fighting the best. Boxing has become all about the brand building and cherry pick

I think fans reaction too is big factor. I do have experience with this: young beginner in pros gets tough fight with good for him boxer.
He defeats him on points and after fight is sitting in dressing room 1 hour before walking till car. Guy is exausted. Fans: he is pillow fisted boxer. Sure.
The same guy get next fight, this is bum, guy KTFOed bum and wow, how cool he is. Guy after fight is fresh, lesser tired than in daily work in the gym.
Why not to gave boxer a bum after he had undefeated pro boxer in his debut fight and looked for fans pillow fisted. It isn't cool to gave for debut lad 3-0-2 pro boxer to fight with.
