About the same but i think Ennis made a bigger statement stopping a tough guy like Lipinets while Ortix stopping the fragile Hooker was expected by everyone.
Lipinets being a top 10 welterweight with good power and a very good chin makes it a slightly more impressive victory for me. Hooker is good too, has better combinations and handspeed with good pop too but he lacks defence and a chin. Lipinets plays to his strengths more and both have dog in em. Both men have similar brawling, come forward tendencies too even though it suits Lipinets a lot more to fight that way. I can't knock either man's heart because they have it aplenty, it's telling of the talent that both Ortiz and Ennis have to have broken them down as that's no easy feat. I'd like to see them handle a good boxer in the ilk Ugas, Clayton or Jamal James to see how they fight an opponent always moving away from them and potshotting.
Yeah, I ofc subjective. For me Vergil looks very watchable, ofc he needs to improve a lot. Otherwise he maybe likes me too much to be enough objective.
Boots made Lipinets look like a disabled kid from the YMCA boxing program. I felt bad for Sergey, he was drowning from the opening bell until the KO. I know a couple dudes in the Philly boxing world and they have told me for a couple years now that Boots absolutely chews J-Rock up in sparring sessions. Bring on Spence, because it’s gonna be hard to find any legit contenders that will get in the ring with Ennis and jeopardize their standing in the division.
That's crazy if he's working J-Rock in sparring. Sure it is sparring and that means nothing really, but still J-Rock is a world class fighter and Ennis is only 23. Would love to see the sparring sessions.
One beat a former world champ while the other beat an EE bum....you tell me. “Bootleg” Ennis is other next Kirkland, and he’ll be wrecked by Ortiz if they ever meet, just like Canelo wrecked that bum Kirkland.
They both fought 140 pounders moving up. Hooker made Ortiz WORK. Ennis took care of business in spectacular fashion.
That's how I see it. Lipinets is a very good fighter. But as a counterpuncher giving up reach (and maybe starting to lose some handspeed) - this was going to be a very tough assignment. It was always pretty likely he would get broken down and stopped when he tried to operate at the distances he needed to operate at - unless Jaron was doing something very wrong. That didn't happen and the expected outcome took place. Oritz Jr vs. Hooker was a more difficult assignment. Hooker can mix up lots of different shots. I thought Hooker would have a real shot to win this - if he could avoid getting backed up. That was a really even fight until Ortiz Jr kind of blew it open with great body work in Round 5.
I've spent 15 minutes trying to decide which was more impressive and I still haven't come to a conclusion. Both are very good wins for this point in their careers.
Good question. Ennis dominated Lip, who didn’t have to size or tools to trouble. Ortiz stopped Hooker, who, stylistically, would be more trouble for either. He got hit quite a bit, and had to work. I’m going to say Boots, based on the sheer domination. i hope we get to see them settle the real question in the ring.
Just by looking at the weigh in, there was a notable size difference between Lipnets and Boots. I didnt give Lipnets much chance just base off the fact he couldn't counter off the smaller Garcia at 140. And Garcia has a shorter reach and is pretty flatted footed, so I dont know people were saying Lipnets was a live dog. I mean Lipnets has beaten peterson and ....... who else? So I would go with Ortiz. At 5'11, Hooker had more physical advantages over Oritz comparatively compared to Lipnets.
