Murray Thriumhs over Sheppard in Baltimore Heavyweight Fight: Baltimore, June 19.--(AP.)--Lee Murray, switch-hitting South Norwalk, Conn., Negro, outboxed and outslugged his way to a 12-round decision tonight over "Hatchetman" Curtis Sheppard of Pittsburgh, to retain the Maryland duration heavyweight Title. - Jun 20 1944 The Hartford Courant Here is a quick little nip on Sheppard by his manager in 1945 about Sheppard, now a contender, fighting only main events. http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...pg=1985,1996329&dq=curtis+hatchetman+sheppard I will post the major articles later hold up. Seems my Walcott-Shepard I fight report I obtained from cyberboxing is no longer working...DARN. * interesting stat, according to the Chicago Tribune, Walcott hired Hatchetman Sheppard as his chief sparring partner to prepare him for his rematch title shot against joe louis in 1948
Only a fool, who's never seen or read anything about that time, would believe this. They were coming to fights in not very good shape as often then, as they do now. And speaking of speed, most of them weren't very fast in the first place, to be slowed down by weight lifting.
I somtimes think that Joey Maxim was the Jimmy Young of that era and Curtis Shepard was the Earnie Shavers.
Except that Maxim was an undisputed World Champion and defeated 5 World Champions ,and Young wasnt and defeated 1 Champ.
Are those stories of him killing two people and being a terror in the prisons as true as Alkazoff claims in those articles? Is there any information of those killings or what he did in prison outside of that article. Is Sheppard still alive?
Also is that Alkazoff guy still alive? I read he used to be a user on here, also thre's a few articles of him being arrested for drug dealing throughout the years.
In every era you get that one puncher, where everybody they fought seems to tell the same story. In era it is obviously Sheppard.
