As rare as the one-punch knockout to the chin (or head) is in boxing, it’s far more rare to see a fighter take out someone with a single debilitating body shot.

Here are the ones I thought of off the top of my head:

Roy Jones Jr-Virgil Hill: RJJ cracked ribs with a right hand under the elbow, which is rare (even from a southpaw) as it’s almost always the left hook to the liver that produces these things.

Micky Ward-Alfonso Sanchez: I remember watching this one and it was, as the announcers kept reminding us, an underwhelming performance by Ward as he basically did nothing ... until he did. One shot, good night. Left the previously undefeated Sanchez basically in a ball screaming on the canvas in pain. Wow. That Arturo Gatti got up from the same shot and survived (while also in agony) speaks to Thunder’s intestinal fortitude.

I know there are others but that’s what immediately came to mind. What else should be on this list?

Ricky Hatton - Jose Castillo is always nice to watch
Roberto Duran - Monroe Brooks was as clean as they come
    Lucian Bute - Andrade
Gerald McClellan had a couple but the names are escaping me

Not a 1 punch ko but I always watch Carlos Palomino - John Stracey round 12 when I want to see a display of educated body punching.

Khaokar Galaxys loss to Luisito was either a very strange and destructive body shot, or it was a fixed fight.

Khaokar was supposedly struggling badly at the weight, and was very drained. Espinoza was a massive puncher, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were a combination of the body punch being nasty and Khaokar not having the resistance he normally would due to making weight. It's weird how he went down so long after the punch, and I think he passed out after the fight (don't quote me on that).

Jofre's on Fukuyama was brutal , left hook to the body,, its probably in Chris's book
Gerald McClellan's hook on James Williamson looked extremely painful, Gerald knocked out a few that way
So did Cotto, martinez and cant remember the other
    GGG's on Macklin ...
    Trinidad had a couple too

So do I, I remember watching this live and I have posted on this a couple of times in other threads a while back .. It is an absolute thing of beauty , as he set him up for this specific shot . And Merchant and Lampley were soon left with their dikks in their hands peeing all over themselves

Ward relied heavily (and effectively) on what is called by its innovator the reverse hook.

It’s a tap left hook to the head followed by a hard hook to the body. There’s some specific mechanics involved to get the speed/power ratio right and drop the weight hard to the finish shot to the body. The quick head-tap serves to set up the punch by getting the recipient to raise his right hand and open up liver/rib area.

Victor Valle taught this to all his fighters. He trailed Ward for a time. You can see Gerry Cooney, Billy Costello and others utilize it. I knew Randall Yonker, who learned it from Valle before moving South to Mobile, Alabama, where he became a fringe contender (before signing with Don King and being thrown in with a better class of fighter he couldn’t handle) — he used it and attributed it to Valle.

Valle also trained Esteban DeJesus and Alfredo Escalera, among others, and I’m not sure if they used it or if Valle figured that trick out, or perfected it, a bit later.
