Really excellent video series. Must have taken ages to put together. Though it might have been a good idea to have vetted Johnny_B's lists before tallying up the scores.
Well, I suppose that's one way of looking at it. But for my 2 cents, the big takeaway for me was that Pac & Floyd's legacies are forever intertwined in ways that go well beyond the actual fight they had. They were both exceptionally talented and successful boxers, and among the very richest and most famous to ever do it. I think they both rightfully belong in the Top 15-25, and that is saying a lot for each of them. Mayweather and Pacquiao were head and shoulders above everyone else from their generation, and there were some damn fine fighters competing at the same time. But they were both special talents, and they both had outstanding careers. In my opinion very little separates the two in terms of "greatness".
Don't you think, Rumsfeld, that since we now live in the time of earth's greatest population with the best-fed and best-trained athletes in history that today's greats would likely destroy the greats of the past in every way?? Too many look at the past with rose spectacles. Manny and Floyd probably whip almost any fighter in history of their size. Period
Agreed, but when you knockout Lehlo AND then knockout Cotto and shatter Margaritos face and then you realize THE SAME man did those things, well now we have some perspective. I think a better example is this. For the same man to KO Sasakul and Cotto and turn Clottey and Margarito into defensive shells. Well have we really seen that before. Nah, we haven't. But I've avoided talking about greatness when it comes to fighters for almost a whole year now. It's just pointless to do for non heavyweights. Pacquiao doesnt crack the top 100,000 fighters of all time, let alone contend for GOAT. And Caleb ****en Plant washes prime Mayweather 12-0 FFS. So that's where we are.... I've had Pac as the greatest fighter of my lifetime and RJJ second since Kellerman put out an argument (a p4p based reasoning) that Pac is both greater than Floyd (and put some separation between them also) and one of the top 10 greats ever p4p. And heres the thing...... nobody in media has ever refuted it. They have nothing to offer in return to combat his argument. If people cant grasp the concept of p4p (which they cant) then everybody 175 and below isnt great.
If he beats crawford nobody can deny this. He aint beating crawford though. Would be his best win. A prime crawford vs a 40 year old pac....
I think Crawford gets found out in this fight. Old Pac will be the best fighter Crawford has ever fought.
This line of thinking doesn't work with boxing to the same degree as it does with other sports. Firstly, fighters now are much more likely to avoid opponents they see as too dangerous. Secondly, fighters of the past for the most part fought way more often than they do now. Which of course means more experience. Back when there was one belt, someone going up into a higher division would have to fight THE man at that weight to capture a title, they weren't able to pick from a list of belt holders. Last point....why when comparing fighters from different eras do we always assume the fighter from, the 60s for example, is fighting in 2021 against a fighter who has the advantage of sports science and nutrition? Why don't we put the current fighter back in the 60s where he won't be re hydrating and trying to enter the ring with a huge weight advantage over his opponent? Why aren't we talking about how the modern day fighter would do in a 15 rounder that happens to be his 6 or 7th fight of the year?
I'm British, I have no real skin in the game. As people I actually prefer Pacquaio, I don't like Mayweather, so it's not an emotional statement. I'm just sick of the bitter, whiny, crying and snivelling Pacquaio fans that rattle on about how Pacquaio is somehow greater than Mayweather.. doing mental gymnastics that are Olympic standard. All these years later and Pacquaio fans are still shook, rattled and still crying, it's embarrassing. Pacquaio fans are without doubt the most delusional of all boxing fans, it's one thing being a great supporter but it's another when you excuse, invent and just blatantly ignore facts to suit an argument that just isn't true. Facts are.. Mayweather beat Pacquaio, that's done, its over, Pacquaio FAILED. Marquez put Pacquaio in to another dimension for nearly 8 minutes.. and what do the fans with zero self awareness scream.. "PEDs" This coming from a bunch of fans who have excuses Pacquaios "I'm scared of needles" claims, the fact Pacquaio went up weights and knocked around men twice his size with ease and there's were plenty of rumours yet these Pacquaio fans say "he never tested positive"... well neither did Mayweather or Marquez, you can't have it both ways. MAYWEATHER > PACQUAIO
