"Niche sport"? That is the worst description I've ever heard for MMA. Boxing...You can only punch, only punch above the waist and can't punch while clinching. Nothing else is ok. Boxing is a niche sport. What could be more niche than boxing? Maybe fencing
It's niche in terms of participation levels, pay and overall popularity. There are plenty of other sports that have vastly superior athletes and many more of them. MMA is still way behind sports like soccer, football, boxing, basketball, tennis etc for these reasons. This is just a fact.
No, it isn't a fact. There are over 800 sports in the world. I think the summer Olympics recognizes 28, the winter 15. If everything were to follow "soccer, football, boxing, basketball, tennis"...it's doing just fine. You just defined it as upper echelon.

That youtube bloke is 1 decent opponent away from being seriously hurt, he has no balance, techinque and is way too upright.... the ex MMA bloke came in fat and looked like they dragged him outta bed after a heavy night on the tiles. Was it a set up? who knows but it was a legit punch that was telegraphed 3 days in advance.... the MMA bloke was terribly out of shape but regardless, he shouldve put up a better performance (if the fight was legit) than that.
Paul nailed him with a flush right with his weight behind it, while Askren stood still almost expecting it and fearful of it.
