You can still move your head. Active defense or w/e you want to call it. He was standing too straight and just waiting.
However, the credit goes to Usman, as his jab and right hand clearly confused Masvidal. And the threat of the takedown as you pointed out. Masvidal had no idea what to expect and ended up just standing still and waiting.

What was Masvidal's plan. He did some good kicks but for the most part he was just standing around and not taking the initiative. If you're going to get KO'd it might as well be while your are giving your best effort to get the other guy out. Disappointing from him but Usman put together some great jabs and a picture perfect bomb right on the chin. Respect.

Yeah it's easy to criticise MMA fighters for not adopting a boxing defence, when they are also trying to defend against take downs and kicks. Jorge said it himself, he was expecting more wrestling and it took him by suprise.

First of all, I seriously doubt Masvidal expected to get KO´d, so the "might as well" goes out of the window. And Masvidal tried just that in the first fight.

Like you said, Usman had a great jab. It really shut Masvidal down.

P4P King destroys the false street prophet. Now people can get off that ****ing hype train. As much as CC is a needle dick the results would be the same against Masvidal and I doubt that fight happens now.

I wasn´t referencing to Mike Tyson or anything. You can always move your head just a bit. Constantly giving your opponent a new look. And even when the opponent attacks, you will have an easier time moving your head off the line because it´s already moving.

Lol, Usman went from one of the most boring guys in the UFC to taking fools out in style.
Dude had 1 stoppage in the UFC before becoming the champ. Now he is 5(3)-0 in title fights.

Good work from his back but it didn't win him the round.

Usman's range is very deceptive and that jab to the body early on had the Cuban False Prophet thinking.

Usman also threw a few wild looping right hands earlier. That last one was a laser beam straight through Masvidal's jaw.

Don't take my comment to heart. I like MMA and respect these dudes. It's just **** talk. I was annoyed at how he got hit by such a telegraphed shot.

I was surprised that Masvidal got KO'd by a guy who's just now improving his striking. You ask how much boxing he does in training. It should be a lot considering he likes to stand up. It's been his identity.

That's what I'm saying. Why not stick to your strengths? Why be overly cautious about takedowns? In the first fight he was outwrestled and lost clearly but he got some hard strikes in. I thought he'd fight similarly aggressive but with a full camp he could have done better.

Fair enough, but that´s just it - they are not boxers. So it´s pointless to compare them.
Ben Askren was a high level wrestler in MMA. Dude got absolutely destroyed in a wrestling exhibition some years ago. There are just differences you have to focus on.

They don't spend all their life just training at boxing and punch defense. Against wrestlers they cant just hold hand to the chin or that takes away any take down defence.
That's why it's called MMA they have to train at all type of defence in BJJ, wrestling and standup, they also have to train in attack of the same techniques. To be perfect in all is impossible as the amount of training needed for all of them the human body can't do it.
Boxers just train at boxing so of course they are gonna have better punch defense.
It's not ****ing rocket science, but you boxing fans seem a bit too dumb to realise this, with the constant MmA fiGHterZ CaNt bOX
Same as boxer has zero chance at defending a takedown.
