This study shows the pros and cons of AJ`s long guard defense, will it be effective v Fury? This content is protected
Easier to do against a shorter fighter. Will A.J be confident enough to try it against fury...yes hell probably try it and it will then boil down to who understands how to control "long guard defence " typically known as "pawing" and take it away from their opponent
It`s his main way of fighting, it worked well for him v Wlad and Pulev and will be vital against the jab of Fury, however Wlad got through with his right hand, Fury`s right hand is more sloppy than Wlad`s though, it`s very wide and clumsy he even struggled to catch Wilder clean with that shot.
Yeah it’s more effective against fighters shorter than himself. But against a fighter 2 to 3 inches taller in Fury he’ll have to use a different style or get potshotted to a UD loss. Fury can really bore this out similar to him dethroning Wlad and win. I think AJ would have to get a KO to win.
AJ uses this guard and his jab to set up his KO`s, he`s a long range fighter that relies on straight rights and jabs, he only hooks on the inside in spurts prefering to clinch on the inside, he has been working on inside shots in training for this though, he`s been working on combo`s to the body. I get what your saying but someone who understands how to control the pawing arms of his opponent will come out on top, they will essentially contain and take that skill away. We shall have to see if fury is the man that can contain this tactic from A.J. I think he can.
You can call it whatever you want Mark...theres no Oxford dictionary on boxing terms and moves. As long as u understand it, and can convey it.That's all that matters really.
Yep,, he has to control distance and keep his opponent on the end of his punches, if not, well see the first Ruiz fight.
If he wins via Wlad type decision then it should be a no contest.. Any non fanboy knows that Fury won 7-8 rounds, it was no shutout in any way, and of those 7-8 rounds a lot of them were won by 1 or 2 scuffy punches (many which were inside glove, hence not clean) from Fury. Furys mastered the art of don't hit and don't get hit
Ruiz II fight he boxed pretty well. The difference from other boxers is that Ruiz does have short for modern HW reach, isn't tall and was lazy & leg lazy.
Yep that’s why I said he can make the fight very boring for the fans and win but AJ would have to KO to win.
