Box Nation will be swooping in for the coupe de grace after the years invested in softening them up with poorly performing cards. Big Frank's probably lifting up the mattresses to gather the cash as we speak.
Would make sense for DAZN to buy it, rebrand it and add Matchroom boxing to their portfolio. Where that would leave Frank is rather interesting.
Been saying for some time that if Warren doesn’t want to retire he should just go into a boxing management role and manage fighters. Don’t know what it is about this boxing guys like Arum, King and Warren who just want to keep going on and on and on.
What about all the multi-millionaires on here boasting about their worth? They should collectively buy it.
Live sports rights are only going one way. Kids aren't following live football with the same interest as previous generations. They prefer to watch highlights on Twitter & Facebook. Fifa Ultimate Team is what interests them...
Wouldn’t make sense for DAZN to buy it unless they are essentially looking to asset strip it. maybe buy the channels on the networks such as Virgin etc. And then buy the content they want like champions league, premier league, ufc and wwe. Then add in Matchroom boxing. it’s a big if but if it were to happen DAZN would essentially be right at sky’s heels in the UK
Another broadcaster which tried to but just can’t compete with Sky. Sky were allowed to get too powerful in the early days and unfortunately no one can catch up. I do subscribe to both Sky and BT and find some of the coverage and content on BT to be far better. May be a way in for DAZN and gives them actual tv exposure rather than streaming. But can they afford it? And how would they be able to finance it? Blavatnik isn’t just going to throw his personal wealth at it for the sake of it. But maybe a deal to be had for the main subscriber generators such as Prem rights and Rugby Union for DAZN.
BT Sport suffered I think from the departure of the former CEO of BT who had championed the idea of getting into broadcast. The parent company weren't as interested in a loss leading enterprise once they departed. It's a shame, because as you say, the execution in parts has been tremendous. Innovative programs, some good presenters, studios, lots of fresh thinking on display and very expertly marketed. Their promos have been top quality, they've made some brilliant sports documentaries and the films they made to support their boxing are amongst the best the sport has seen. I very much hope they can be bought and run as a going concern, because the skillsets that have been assembled for this enterprise cannot be easily put together from scratch. That said, it's a tough sell to ask someone to take on the expenses of a cable channel subscription funded channel at a point when that model is under attack from the likes of DAZN and ESPN who are operating with lower fixed overheads. I don't think DAZN's business model fits with an acquisition like this. Amazon, cash rich and with the muscle to buy the football rights on which such a venture ultimately rests could be interested, but would anyone not actually invested in the fibre optic / satellite network go for the multi channel multi sport model, or would they pick and choose and stick the revenue generating stuff online leaving the niche sports to wither?
Todays kids are idiots born of the fast food culture - I wanted it 2 minutes ago. @DramaShow excepted, he has his head screwed on and is quite knowledgeable for his age.
It would be great for boxing fans if DAZN bought it. Then all your boxing subscriptions are in one place, one price, with football, UFC, other sports thrown in too. It would also be great for Matchroom v Queensbury cross promotional battles. No more network excuses. Also DAZN seem to be throwing a lot more money at boxing so would benefit the standard of Queensbury roster/shows. On the flip side of the coin it wouldn’t be so good for fans but for Frank Warren he could move over to sky. It would be a great move for him personally but then it means once again we’re paying multiple fees + PPV.
Far too many sports subscriptions these days and only a matter of time before 2-3 broadcasters lose enough money to give up. Most people don't have Sky, even less have Sky and BT, few mugs like me subscribe to both and Premier Sports while even less have all three plus Amazon - now DAZN come in with the fewest subscribers to date. Box Office added on and you can see why some will bite the dust. The biggest subscription these days in the UK is to criminals where all the above is offered at £1 per week and there is no sign of this stopping. The UK is saturated with sports subscriptions and any more than 2-3 broadcasters is likely to lead to loss making businesses given the current market conditions.
