So what? What's Ruiz' best win aside from the Joshua bout? Rice Pudding Jr is being enormously overrated after that win. 40 year old, shot to pieces, previously retired Arreola dropped Rice Pudding Jr, who laboured his way to an unconvincing decision. I'm pretty sure Arreola from 11 or 12 years ago would have done a lot better than that.
prime Aerreola does do better against Ruiz Jr he wins more rounds but not sold that he beats him. after all this was the lightest most in shape he has ever come in to fight. At 40 years old... Something to be said for that.
Last night was a case of Arreola honing his boxing skills, and employing the right tactics. He still lost. The undefeated Arreola was alot more open and aggressive. He would have walked on to something big, like the Stiverne fights. He never fought as cautious as he did against Ruiz.
I think it's a toss up against prime Arreola. Arreola got himself in good shape for this fight but he is still 40 years old with a lot of wars behind him. The reflexes are not as good at 40. Your muscles aren't quite as springy. And you get hurt easier, which we saw with Arreola's shoulder yesterday. I don't think Ruiz was so much better than Arreola as just younger and fresher. Ruiz is being overrated by some due to his thrashing of AJ in their first fight. In the first fight, AJ got over aggressive, careless and got caught. I don't think he ever really recovered. That fight was more about AJ not recovering than Ruiz being a superman. Ruiz is a credible heavyweight but not the world beater some are making him out to be.
Prime Arreola wasn’t disciplined enough to put it all together as he rarely showed up in shape. He shouldn’t have lost to Adamek when he was 28 but again he wasn’t in good shape and was outworked.
Fat Andy just went life and death against a shot to bits 40 y/o Arreola who should've been 2-3-1 in his last 6 and who looked like a LHW after shedding all that super fat. Arreola shook him everytime he landed clean and he dropped him x 1, came within a whisker of dropping him x 2, and hurt him numerous times even though he didn't catch him clean anywhere near as much he usually does with his high output style. Imagine the effect those shots would've had on Fat Andy if they had an extra 20 plus pounds of super fat weight behind them and his punch output was as high as it usually was? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that he would've got KTFO.
Well if you want to bash Arreola for beating Molina then guess what? At least he beat Molina much quicker than Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder did. Also a washed up Chris was able to drop a prime Ruiz but you think a 20 something year old Chris couldn't and wouldn't do better?
yes. this was the most disciplined arreola i have ever seen. he had a game plan, the right one i might add, and executed it to the best of his ability. im sure, even though he lost, that goosen is proud of both their work.
Yeah. Arreola coming in that light should have been an indicator to most, that he took the fight seriously and that he was going to be alot smarter in the ring, using his boxing ability rather than just going all out balls to the wall type stuff were used yo seeing him do. He fought a great fight.
i figured he would have the stamina to keep up with andy because of it. but i didnt expect the defensive tactics employed. arreola fought very smart, he pushed when he should have and got on the backfoot at the right times as well. the knock down was more of a mistake from ruiz, getting caught in a bad position, but arreola was sharp enough to seize that split second. he wasnt just swinging wildly.
ruiz wins even easier since "prime" arreola was a fat plodder who spammed the same punches over and over in a straight line, current arreola is the better version.
Probably still ruiz . Arreola fought smart this time with a solid guard and even boxed well on his back foot. Joe goosen taught him that late in his career. He didnt care about defence back then with his old trainer just a face first pressure fighter. Ruiz is dangerous with his counter attacks which can be blessing and a curse as we saw in the joshuas fights and now a little scare with arreola.Every time arreola opens up ruiz is there throwing with him, thats why i thought arreola didint stand a chance to stay for 12 rounds. Credit to joe goosen they prepared very very well. Why doesnt goosen train more fighters.?!
