As others have said, many great fighters/big punchers had thin legs. I think Wilder's downfall was the fact that there's no division above heavyweight. Fury was just too big and strong for him, and just so happened to be able to box like someone much lighter. Still think Wilder would destroy Joshua, and most other current heavyweights.

Having skinny legs doesn't mean they ain't strong legs, Jon Jones is another example and Tyson Fury's legs ain't much bigger than Wilder's.

Skinny legs can be strong, but only to a degree, but they can sometimes be extremely explosive & springy!
Although strength is mostly correlated to muscular size, that is distinct from punching power.
And as people explained below, torque & upper body action can make someone like Hearns or Fittzsimmons a great puncher. since any formula for power involed speed.

No, Fury has significantly larger legs than Wilder! It is not close.
Wilder has a 14" calf & a an almost miniscule 18" thigh. Tiny for *any* HW.
See the photo above. I defy you to find any measurement of Fury's that is clise to either of these!

Yes they are. Fury's calves are thin though.

Guys Joshua, like Holmes, Ali, Tyson, Lewis, Frazier etc had measurements of 25+ inches when it came to thighs but I highly doubt Fury has legs the size of them. Wladimir's and Holyfield's was listed at 22 and Vitali at 23. I'm not saying Fury's are exactly the same as Wilder but I highly doubt Fury has much bigger legs than Wilder compared to the other guys I listed did. David Tua's calves/thighs were on another level compared to everyone else mentioned though.

Pretty crazy that I'm 145 pounds and got two inch bigger legs than Wilder and his calves are only half an inch more than mine haha.

    Agreed.

Wilder hasn't outweighed an opponent in nine years. Yet, he still managed to knock out all of them except Fury.

Other skinny punchers tended to lose their pop as the opponents got bigger -- see Tommy Hearns, Bob Foster, 'The Explosive Thin Man" Arguello.

But Wilder still managed to waste guys who outweighed him by sometimes ridiculous amounts for nearly 20 years.

Yes you do but the way wilder throws the right hand is not the "correct way" if there is such a thing.
Technically speaking it should be the power through the triple extension on the right hand side (ankle, knee, hip)that propels the body over the left leg add in shoulder rotation and you have the technically correct right hand. However there is also the way wilder does it by propelling his body through leverage using his left shoulder to drop past his left knee, more bodyweight goes into the shot but at a cost...it's easier to counter. In this case, wilder legs are nothing more than an implement to pivot his body weight over.
Its the shot to choose when you are happy that nothing will be coming back...similar in technique to Dempseys "falling step"

Wilder must also have solid joints to transit the impact energy close to 100%

I have good Weight and explosive leg muscles but weak wrist joint. Good for fast start and stops, box jumps, short leaps etc but Not good for transit impact energy.

    1. You could strengthen wrists thru exercises.
    2. Are u sure your hands and elbows are in correct position as u make impact ?

Yes vey sure. Light skinny guys with low explosive muscle fibres can punch harder than heavier and more explosive guys Due to strong joints. Weak joints = less force going thru into the target.

Construction workers hit harder on average p4p Due to this simple fact.

There's something called "Fast twitch muscles" lol
Why do you think some people can run fast as hell for only 100m?
Or why others can run endlessly but are not fast?
    End thread

Problem is that so many of these measurements are *innacurate*. Estimates, exaggerations...Although sometimes they may be too low-I would be surprised if bpoth Holyfield & Tyson had a chest 44" & 46" expanded & not larger, & both listed as a 16" biceps sounds low.

There is also an ambiguity in how is it measured-if not flexed, 16" sounds about right for both.
And I understand that a thigh measurement is supposed to be mid-thigh-but if you measure high up around the thickest part it will be larger, often substantially so.

I am surprised that the Klits are not listed as bigger-for muscular SHWs with a good amount of lean muscle mass.
I do not know what Fury is, but I doubt he is less than the range of the Klits.
Even though his legs will have more fat.

But even take the lowest number you listed, 22", which Holyfield also was listed at. (only 13" calves).
While small for a modern HW, consider the *percentage* difference between that & Wilder at 18".

Even that is a BIG difference.
